Free offers to gain exclusivity.

If you want to separate yourself from the competition and make your services exclusive then one way to do this is to give something of value away for free. Lets say ( for example ) that Joan sells vitamins and to stand out in this extremely competitive market she hosts free and exclusive monthly health seminars for consumers who would like to learn more about the health benefits that can be derived by adding vitamins to supplement their diets. Not only are Joan's seminars free to attend and exclusive to her buisness in her traiding area, but she has also created a captive audience to sell to with no competition present. As this example illustrates, you have to get creative and seek out ways to make your offering different from your competition, and providing prospects something of value for free is a great way to do it. The objective of the free offer is to have and hold a captive audience long enough so that you can present the services you want to sell in a noncompetitive enviroment.

No offense but I've been invited to those health and vitaman seminars, I just couldn't bring myself to do it. <G>

You do have a point though, a great way to market your services is to a captive, confined audience. One thing I do is go to HOA meetings as often as I can for complexes I would like to work in. Then I give them information about my company, give them my presentation and answer any questions they have. HOA's and property management companies LOVE when you take your personal time to explain the details in what needs to be done, and what you do to meet their needs. I don't close every sale because sometimes they just go with price but I close about 75% of them. The following time they need the service I close 95%.

Giving away services does not help...It attracts the people who are cheaper than dirt.

Give a good price for a great service, fair is fair?
