Guerrilla Marketing Strategies?

Saw this at a Residence Inn while we were on vacation... I wish we brought our trailer with us - I'd have finished the walkway and handed the manager our business card! But would I? I can only imagine things going down hill - police, liability, etc. That's also one of the things that's stopping me from buying a stencil - vandalism.

Has anyone tried something like this and actually be successful? (Clean a storefront, sign, walkway, etc without permission. Use stencils on public sidewalks as advertising, etc)

I'm even too afraid to clean one of the signs in front of our local town beach because I'm afraid of getting reprimanded in some way. (Yes, for free. Its bugging the hell outta me.) I imagine having some sort of weekly local beautification post on our social networks as a way to give back.

Sorry for the strange thread/line of thought. I'm wondering if anyone else has had these thoughts or actually gone through with this kind of "guerrilla" marketing.

To me, It'd seem like a pothole that needs filling: even though you can do a better job yourself, and are willing to pay for it, still a no go. Since cleaning isn't "structural" I'm curious to hear the positives/negatives about it.
