Speed's wash

I am trying to get some commercial accounts started but I am having a hard time getting someone to bite the bullet.I always get the same answer,"I do it myself" or "We use the local street sweepers".
I was thinking about going out to these businesses when they are closed and clean an area, then leave a business card or flyer stating the job I performed and if they were pleased with results to give me a call. Does anyone think this will work? Can I get into trouble if I do this at someones business?

I think it would be hard to get prosecuted for doing that. On the other hand if I were the business owner/manager I would feel like I was being blackmailed into your work. I would then call anybody else to do the work besides you. If you were to ask them if they wanted a free sample area cleaned I am sure it would be a little better received. Maybe clean a specific area in the back or something like that. I have had success at getting their business by explaining how their in-house cleaning is not really saving them money. I show them what I would do different then POLITELY and CAREFULLY explain what they may be doing wrong.(gum, wand marks etc...they usually only have a small machine that they try to clean with and it never removes all the dirt) If that doesn't work I sometimes give them a maintenace price for the initial cleaning, it seems a little easier to swallow at times.

I don't think I would suggest the sneaky method either....Offer the free demo. Everybody likes free. You might also want to explain about reclamation issues (if you are doing this!) - not as a scare tactic, but to let them know that you know what you're talking about.

Something else to consider - align yourself with a paint company.....if you tell them that they will fare better with their painters doing what makes them money while you, the better equipped pw company, takes care of the wash, you could get commercial exposure there while making some money. Network, network, network.

Networking with a painting company is a great idea! Whatever you do however, Like Carolinaprowash said, networking is definately key.
