Has This Happened To You?

While cleaning our city's amphitheatre this week, my brand new 4-foot aluminum lance failed. A 3 inch split right in the middle happened while cleaning with a 3,000 psi nozzle (a 40065 nozzle with a TS2021 pump). I switched from stainless steel to aluminum because it is lighter and easier on the operator. I didn't realize aluminum was so weak when using higher pressure. Or did I get a faulty lance?

The second item is: Blue non-marking hose is NOT non-marking. The 2-wire blue Goodyear hoses i bought recently are as bad as the black ones for leaving marks IMO. And I was only using cold water. Most of my hoses are the grey non marking and I haven't seen a mark from a grey one yet. I don't think I will buy blue again. Does anyone use yellow hoses and are they non marking? I hate cleaning up after my hoses!! I also like my hoses to be easily seen but don't know anyone who sells the yellow with a min of 4,000 psi. Thanks!

I use nothing but aluminum lances. I've only had a couple break off at the threaded end but they were old and probably had weakened. As far as hoses. I've noticed a difference between manufacturers. Some will leave marks and others won't. I think it also depends a lot on what they are being dragged through as far as soaps, caustics etc...

That was a defective aluminum lance, I have never had one split open.

I have had the threaded ends break off from stress, age or from getting thinned out from using acid through them but now use stainless for acid use.

I still use aluminum wands for most washing except truck washing and have had the same wands for many years now.

When the threads break off, I cut that part off plus an inch or two and cut new threads and keep on using the wand, same with steel or stainless.

I have not had hoses that mark and I usually stick with the Goodyear Neptune mostly but have some Legacy also and then some hose with no branding on them at all. If you get soaps and degreasers on the hoses, a lot of times some color will come off. Color coming off new hoses is very strange. I would have doubts about that hose if it is supposed to be non-marking.

I would call who you bought the wand and hose from, email them pictures of the problems and have them replaced. If they don't want to replace the defective stuff, I would post who ripped you off and then buy from a different distributor.

Good luck.

The black Legacy hose we have don't leave marks, but like Steven they wear through quickly. I may try the blue next go round

Definitely worth the extra $$ Scott... I wish I had looked into it more thoroughly rather than buying bundles of hose! I'm looking at getting months out of these ones rather than weeks (and torn up hands and gloves with the metal braids!)

We have used Goodyear blue 2 wire hoses for 7 years and never had any to mark like your picture shows.

All the hoses that I have ever seen have that info stamped on them (brand, psi and temperature rating), there might be some out there that do not have this info stamped on them but I have not seen any yet.

Looks like your machine is vibrating the hose against the concrete. Maybe not, but that's what it looks like.
