Health Insurance

Does anyone have any suggestions for self employed health insurance?

Yeah, be sure to get a second mortgage on your house first!

Ok, seriously, you might consider asking at your local Chamber of Commerce.

Look in the phone book for 2 or 3 local Insurance Agents. They should be able to get you quotes on a couple different insurance plans.

I have the same health ins problem. It is eating me alive! Tried to obtain through the Home Builders Assoc, which is very large here. No better deal than I could get alone.

Coincidently started looking again for Dental today.

I dont know enough about it to say for sure, but I really don't think it is as easy for an organization to set something like that up as everyone seems to think it is. Its hard to find a good deal on health insurance.

I just cringe every time i cut the check.........

Geoff,
One caution with self-employed health ins coverage. Assuming one does not carry workmans compensation, or you have elected to opt out of work/comp as is permitted in most states, you then have a real dilemma. With an ordinary health or major med plan you have no coverage if injured on the job. I have never seen this little-known fact on any BBS, which leads me to believe this will come as a surprise. The assumption is that you have work comp and most health plans have this stipulation. For a powerwasher this is a major gap. Could bankrupt you. One carrier which does cover occupational injury is Alliance, underwritten by MidWest National Life. There may be others, but this is the only one with which I am familiar.
