Russ S,
I am Nationally Certified with the PDCA. As you said it doesn't mean anything. However when a customer ask what the logo is, it opens up the door, if you know what I mean. Being Certified with a National Organization means alot ot me. # 1, we sell more work because of it, We are respected by home owners more and we show we have a lot going above the avg. company. If you have a few letters behind your name, you make more money. You are looked up to and you gain the respect of the people you sell to. National Accreditation is a Value for our customers. We did so many hrs of computer work, and hands on skills. This brought us up to the front of the class. Many feel it doesn't mean or do anything for them. Probably because they do not utilize the Value of it and promote it. If I drove a crappy truck to your home and tried to sell you a cheap job, you'd wonder? If I showed professionalism as most of us do, and then showed an Accreditation seal, they might dwell a little longer on my proposal? My two cents. Thank You.

Ron,
Could you elaborate on your comment? The past Certifications I saw listed with PWing groups were a matter of studying materials and maybe a skills test. I agree the experience puts people into another category. I believe it would be tough to get many companys, no matter what business to have a lot of years experience. Fail rate for most businesses is about 90% within the first 10 years. Thank You.

License

Yes -- the PWNA should push for license. It brings credibility to the industry.

Think about this for one minute. All states require barbers to have a license. Untill about 4 years ago 48 states required respiratory therapist in the US to have a license to work in the hospital. Google RT and find out what they do. ( they manage the respirator your on if you are when your in the hospital) LIFE SUPPORT. So N. Dakota, Alabama and N.Carolina were the 3 without state license. You can walk in off the street take a 2 week orientation and work in the ICU.

Ok I was involved very closely with getting the licensure approved in one fo these states. It takes getting a lobbist to talk to the HOR and the Senators. Then you members call your representative and senator and remind them you voted for them or will not vote for them unless they pass the PW license.

Now I just condensed 2 years worth of BS and politics in a paragraph . Yes we need it. Can we get it on a national level. It would be much easier for all of us if we had a national license with state chapters.
What it going to cost. 1. Money 2. People dedicated to make it happen.3. People dedicated to make it happen. 4. A leader that speaks for all the people and 5. I hate to say it but a slimy lobbisty to get to the politicans. We spent less that 20K in one year to get it past but had tired the last 10. So we desperately need one to get rid of the home depot crowd. We dont need a union. We need unionform rules and regulations and test that people take and that whats your membership fees pay for.

I think this is my longest post and didnt mean to but Ladies and Gentleman. We can drive down our insurance rates. Have standardized proceedures and in the end have a voice .

Good Luck ...
