How Many Square Feet?

Mark 8262

Residential and Commercial Pressure Washing Specia
I just went to look at a nice size job at a church. One person is bidding on cleaning the concrete with a HD 2500 psi unit with just a wand. The trustee knows this is not a good idea and wants me to submit a bid.

How many square ft do you think you could clean in an hour using only a wand and cold water. Gum is not an issue but it is fairly dirty.

There is approx 12,000 square feet of concrete and about 1500 feet of curb and gutter. How long many hours do you think this would take with the HD unit.

Thanks for your help

depends how dirty but my guess would be for a HD unit days 3 1/2 days .
He will be hurting after the first day.

Dang! Is that guy going to pitch a tent and stay a few days? With an HD pw I would imagine he doesn't have much hose length to his wand, not to mention hose from his pw to the water source (I don't think you can use a water tank with those, as far as I know, they need a certain amount of pressure from a hose spicket).

With a cold water HD 2500psi, I would take a very rough guess of 20 hours or more, but really I have no clue.

Mark, look at it like this, the averge for cleaning concrete is 2000 to 3000 sq feet an hour with a surface cleaner and 5+ gpm, that being said most companies say that a surface cleaner will clean as much as 20 times faster than a wand so you are looking at 100+ hours ! hahahahahaha:lol:

That is my plan. The trustee wants me to show the board members how long it will take this other person. The other vendor said he could do it in between 5-8 hours.

This sidewalk goes around a city block that is fenced. It is just one person. I don't know how he is going to move his hoses with the fence in the way. His hoses will be a big PITA working around the fence. He does not have water tanks.

5-8 hours? It sounds like hes only planning on doing a rince or doesnt care about the tiger stripes and will just blow thru it hit and miss. If nothing tell them to ask the other guy to give them a demo to see the results or how long it takes to do a small area and they can multiply his time.

Maybe the 5-8 hours is for him to wet the concrete, cry over what he got himself into, go fill up his gas cans again to fill that tiny tank on his pw, and then cry some more...LOL

Sounds like he's never done anything that large.

I done a some work for churchs,
Show them some before and after picutures, Tell them you will not run your machine during a church service, or find out what day they arent having them. tell them you will tape and cone off the sidewalks. Give them a time frame when they will be done in 6 hours what ever.

I love working for churchs, the people that go there are very happy that you are cleaning there church. I had some people pat me on the back, and you are cleaning Gods house. I pressure washed Jesus tomb for free.
After doing a roof cleaning.

he might be spraying it with 12.5 but can you guess what would happen if a child jumps in that stuff. I can feel the burn, or someone gets it on there shoes and walks on there carpet.
I got a sidewalk condo job just from that.

Make sure you tell them you are not using any chem. Just hot water.

I would say between 1-2 weeks because of running out of fuel, getting tired and taking breaks, getting burned out, etc....

I agree, print out these posts and show the church what professionals say about doing it the hard way vs. hiring a pro.

The hard way will leave wand marks all over like crazy and will never look good.

I would guess about 15 hours total work time but then again it all depends on how dirty it is and how clean he plans on making it. Took me about 15 using a SC for about double the amount of concrete your talking about last weekend but it was black and had to be cleaned really slowly

Why don't you do the job for free in exchange for a sign in the yard, a mention in the bulletin, plus a verbal mention from the priest/rabbi/minister during the 9:00 and 11:30 services?
Give a man a fish he eats for one day, teach a man to fish and he eats for a lifetime. I'm paraphrasing, of course.

First, the best way to get something you want is to help the other guy get what they want. Since price obviously is an issue for the church, what better way to get in good with the higher-ups? Excuse the pun...

Second, you ALWAYS will be known among the parishoners as the guy that washed the church for free.

Third, a little good karma wouldn't hurt anyone.

Also, just in case the parishoners forget your company name -- that they just heard during the service -- ask for permission to put windshield fliers on all the cars during services. They could read, "See how clean the parking lot is?..." Or something like that.

Of course, this means you have to be up early on a Sunday morning.

Any good sales call include hammering your message as much as possible, and the follow-up with the fliers, followed by the mention in the bulletin, should help drive home your company name awareness.

"Tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em, then tell 'em, then tell 'em what you just told 'em!"

Sorry, I would never do this to a church, this is not the Chamber of Comm.

Even Jesus thru out the money exchanges in the temple.

Give them a fair price and do some extra stuff. You will lose the job if you ask them to sell to the members.

I like to get paid for my work. I might throw in some extras from time to time. I would rather give them a little bonus and keep my price the same.

My bid was 5 times more than the person with the HD pressure washer, but I think they understand that he can't really do the job. My meeting with them went well and I think I will get the job. I should know in the morning.

Thanks for all of your input. I did print out many of the responses to show them how long it would take with just a wand.
