I'm headed out for some fishing in St. Ber-noid Parish. It's the first time I've been down there since Katrina. Wish me and the lower unit luck in not finding any of the trees, boats, cars, camps or oil rigs that got washed in.

I'm not fishing *in* New Orleans.


The water in the marsh is beautiful- cleanest it has been as long as I have been going down there. The whole area is really scenic, especially since Katrina washed all of the garbage into Chalmette and the Ninth Ward.

I saw big boats out in the swamp that were miles away from any navigable water. I saw houses that were raised 20 feet off the ground that were either completely submerged or completely gone.

We fished in the red circled areas. I'm not giving away my honey holes.
Fish? We limited out on specks (that's 50 for 2 people).

Oh, there is no doubt about eating the fish.
The water is fine- actually it's cleaner than it has been in a long time.

Now, coming back through Chalmette my eyes started burning.

Chalmette is mostly vanilla and chemical/oil spills.
