Hi everyone! I think I have just figured out how to get in the forum. My name is Keith from Above & Beyond Pressure-Washers located in San Francisco, California. I am new to the business but have experience through my other occupation which is with the City & County of San Francisco at the airport where I supervise the Custodians in duties such as pressure-washing and Carpet cleaning. I decided to get in the business because it is something that I already know and have 10+ years experience. The only flaw that I have in the field of pressure washing is the chemical aspect of it. At the airport we only also clean sidewalks and parts of the building. I need to get some knowledge on chemicals but my target markets are: sidewalks & driveways, hood cleaning, & graffiti removal. These are my target markets to start with since I also do carpet cleaning. At the airport the pressure washing unit that we use is a 16hp Alto Kew Technology Diesel powered unit. It is capable of hot, cold, and steam. This unit is really nice and works well. It is run by diesel fuel only. It also has a 200 gallon water tank and optional accessories for media blasting. All of this is rigged on the back of a flatbed trunk. I really suggest a flatbed truck for people because it is less of a head than a trailer. If you live in a congested area, than a flatbed is ideal because of parking and traffic. What I bought for myself is a 16hp Briggs & Stratton unit from Northern Tool. It is a 4000psi unit and capable of 210 degrees of hot water. I paid $3500.00 tax included and I hope I got a good deal. I have used the unit only a couple of times it seems to run great. I would like to get other opinions on this unit if anyone else is familiar with this machine. Also, could someone tell me a good degreaser and some tips to cleaning a exhaust hood. I might get a job pretty soon and I have never done this before. I will be e-mailing this forum a lot because I am new to the business and I have a lot of questions and is very willing to learn all I can. Thank you in advance to all and I hope to hear from you all soon.
Sincerely,
Keith

Keith, The machine you have sounds like one I have from Northern but mine is rated at 3,000 psi. It is made by Hydro-Tek. The only problem I have had has been a couple of igniters on the burner. If you had shopped around you could found a skid unit for that price or less. The only drawback with that machine is the size of the fuel tanks. It is very portable and I would build a cart with wheels for your hose reels.
