I got called to bid on this job. It hasnt been cleaned in several years. It is bad. The landlord wants a contract. The owned wants service in his budget. Said heis willing to spend up to 300.00 per qtr. How generous of him. The tag on the Hood ( I wish I would have taken a picure of) was from a IKECA contractor. I actually talked to him. The owner convinced him to just clean the hood and put a tag on it. This was 4 months ago. And now he wont come back. Wonder why? He said he sent him a letter saying " certain areas weren't accessable ". That is true but he didnt even clean the areas which were. My point is , just because you are certified doesnt mean you do certified work.

The system has 30 +/- ' of horional duct with 3 clean outs and 20+/-' of vertical duct. With the fan sitting off the roof 4'.

And Parking, almost non existant.

I gave him a bid, and told him we wouldnt do it halfway. Its all or none.

That is a good one and you are right there are no guarantees with certification.

I also like that he told you how much he was willing to pay....this was his way of setting the ground rules for you sales negotiation:eek:

In my humble opinion he may have to spend a bit more not to mention the initial svs.

Its true, Its true

Wait a minute! Let me get this straight; You are saying that there are IKECA certified companies that dont follow IKECA standards? I dont understand????

Matt, I knew this was going to burst your bubble, put you in a funk. You may even suffer weeks of depression, sleepless nights ( days), loss of appitite. You may even start drinking heavily. Please pull yourself together before things get any worse.

This young fella has been in business about 4 years part time. Went to Delco for his training. He is real proud of that. KEV's is his part time job. He is a one man operation. He has a 800 number but when you call it I think his mom answers the phone. He called on one of my long time accounts and started badmouthing me from the get go. Says he is the only certified cleaner in the area. Bla bla bla. He kind of reminds me of a Security guard wannabe LEO. Give him a badge and a radio and he is all powerful. LOL Iam neither threatened or intimidated by him. Poof he will be gone soon.

It does mean you know if you don't do your work right.

I don't accept half cleaning customers either, but can understand why a part timer, or new start up would. There is nothing wrong with getting paid, just make sure the customer knows that the entire system is not being cleaned, and the hazzard involved. Document and sign.

The way they are praised on these boards,I would have thought one man certified companies were way to virtious for this.Really I was almost convinced!
If this guy was a graduate of the North Eastern Hood Cleaning Academy I would revoke his certification.

Sorry to say but he probably didnt and wont have a work ethic. Im sure he has completed a course in coninued education from
B.S.E.C.A. Blame Somebody Else Cleaning Academy

On his hood sticker it said in real small print , almost missed it.
Some areas are just too had to access so I wont even try.

This thread proves I'm right about certification. The problem is not a lack of training. How long do you need to go to school to know you need to clean the whole system? It is a lack of desire on the contractors part,(with or with out a certificate) and ignorance on the customers part. Ikeca is as impotent as the UN.He is a member, are they doing anything? When I started my business I tried to join IKECA.I called 4 or 5 times.I got a recording and left a message each time saying please send me info on joining, and each time I got no response.I gave up.Looks like I saved a ton of money in 11 years. As I have repeated here over and over again that in 19 years only one person has asked if I was certified,NO ONE ever asked if I was a member of IKECA.

So you are saying.....no one has ever asked if you were certified. I can't believe what I'm reading.

So the subject is finally settled, certification is not necessary. I am soooo glad we can quit arguing this subject now.;)

Now I can shift my interest to this BSECA, who do I talk to about this?

Josh, Good to have you aboard ( if anybody really cared). Who do you talk to? Anyone who will listen, or pretend they are listening. Membership, anonymous, no one cares who you are they just want to know who you are blaming.

Rule #1. Blame someone else
Rule #2. Its not me or my fault.
Rule #3. See rule #1.
Rule #4. If you think no one is listening, whine.
Rule #5. There will be a $5.00 fine for whining.
Rule # 6. Change career, and repeat

Good Lord, Have I summed our society as a whole?

I get ask all the time as to what credentials my company process. Must admit "all the time" is a little stretch. But I do get asked on large job-State and Federal.

IKECA is a gathering of people with like interests-who share ideas and concepts and it is money well served. John, if money savings is a issue-look at your NRA membership as one way to save. I think the Second Amendment will make it another 100 years.

David Solouge qoute "I get asked all the time what my credentials are.Well all the time is a stretch.I get asked on state and Federal." Why type something and in the next sentence say it isn't true?David,Ikeca is supposed to be assuring there members are providing quality service, and they are not.As to any other benefits to membership I can not comment, because I don't know what they are as they refused to send me info after repeated attempts on my part to get it.
As for my NRA membership it is already paid Life membership that I would not give up for anything in the world. The 2nd amendment would be long gone if not for the 4.5 million true patriots like myself in the NRA.It is an organization that is truely effective, unlike IKECA.We have pro NRA majoritys in both houses of congress and a president(like him or not)that could not have been elected with out the NRA.

Josh you are going to be OK.Being defeated intellectually is not the worst thing that can happen to you.I hope you have learned from all this.
