Hello

Had a restaurant call me about some rust marks on their outside dining patios (2). The patios have a combined total of about 2,000 sq ft and are concrete. The rust stains are from the metal tables and chairs that sit outside all year round. Eyeballing it, I would say there are about 12-15,000 leg marks that are about the size of a nickel. Directly adjacent to the patios are windows that go all the way to the ground and walls with colored tile. Also, work must be performed between midnight and 9am.

Questions:

1. What would you use to work on an area this large (muratic acid mix)?

2. What kind of pricing would you throw out?

I have already responded to the customer's request but would like to hear what others would use and charge.

if you have already responded to the customers request, why not inform us as to how you are going to do this and what you are charging?

i'm curious myself.

I would charge a bundle. No muratic. We have done a lot of jobs like this back in Philly. Mostly Friday's out door patios. I would use a product made to remove rust. The one I have is very expensive but works great so that is why I would charge alot. I always get balked at when I tell prices for rust removal. Then I tell them to get others to do a test spot and then call me. After no one can get them out, I go back to do a test spot and get hired on the spot and say, now you know why I charge what I do.
 
Can you hook us up with the name of the rust remover?
 
If you go to their website and request samples, they'll send you a 16 or so ounce bottle of each of their products, Klenztone #'s 1-4. Be sure to request a sample of each product. Mine came in a couple days. Haven't tried them yet, but wanted to have them on the truck so when I do run into something, I can do a sample and see if it works. Mike of Extreme has reported good success with it.

I'm assuming you haven't had success with Oxalic Acid or White Ox (which contains Oxalic Acid).

Prosoco makes a great product that removes rust stains:
"Ferrous Stain Remover" it's a Phosphoric Acid based product.
Costs about $15 per concentrated gallon.
 
I was thinking about trying theirs also. I just found a chem company near me that if I give them a sample they can try to match it at a lower price. we'll see what they can do.
I do however love the prosoco line of products.
 
I stepped away from the job. After weighing the risks (acid, property layout, amount of rust), I decided to remove myself from the bidding. I just wasn't comfortable with this one.

I have always used MA for rust removal. However, I just received some klenztone 1-4 samples that I plan to use the next time I hit rust. I will also have to get my hands on a sample of Prosoco's products. I use their masonry cleaners (like them), but haven't tried the rust remover mentioned above.
