Paint removal

I have been asked to remove paint from wood siding on the house as well removing paint from one side of the fence in 2 sections and both sides of the fence on 1 section. What should I be charging? Per hourly rate, or square footage. For the fence I was thinking of charging $10 per fence peice, at 43 fence peices $430. Should I lower that to $250, the house looks to be about 2500 sq ft. The paint is peeling quite badly it was done about 2 years ago.
What are your suggestions?

if it were me i would set a hourly price.
You can hit some real trouble spots on work like this.
What chem are you going to use?
Do you have to strip it like your going to use stain[every little bit] or just paint prep and blow off the loose stuff?
Is it one story or two?
Ladder work or exstension wand?
Do yourself a favor and test the work before you set a price.
Also are you talking US $$$?
I am pretty sure i could replace a fence for the $430 so i sure would'nt pay you that much to strip it. 3 sections of fence that im thinking of anyway.
Watch the pressure with that wood sideing, you can make one hell of a mess out of it.
just my 2 cents worth. Good luck
Make sure before you start that you and the customer have the same thing in mind about the outcome of your work. Cant get hurt when working per hour.

Paint Prep

Ron I forgot to mention the job is to be subcontracted to me. Should I still charge the hourly wage, or am I going to have to do the square footage thing? It is a 2 storey house, paint prep, there are 43 sections of fence, the usual 4 wall fence. Two walls will be prepped and painted both sides and the other 2 walls will be prepped and painted one side only. The money will be in Canadian $$. So I don't need to use detergent then? The fence doesn't have any loose paint, the house has 3 sides of really loose paint Whoever painted it did a lousy job. I beleive that is the info I forgot to mention. Thanks for your 2 cents appreciate it.

I am not sure what it is your doing?
Can you just use a x-jet to blow off the loose paint? Then use the x-jet to apply a combo of bleach, detergent and TSP [my mix for paint prep] then rinse with the x-jet?
Are you doing a strip job on the fence or just washing it for another coat of paint?
Fence i charge by the lin. ft. per side.
For just cleaning i would use a pre-carb bleach,TSP,and detergent[makes it stick and suspends the dirt]
One other thing to think about. Who is responsable for all that loose paint clean-up? It gets stuck in the landscaping, you, the driveway,ect...
if you are, you need to get some loose weave poly tarps [the type they use to let water pass but keep leaves out of a swimming pool. They collect the paint chips but dont get heavy with water.
Solid tarps float the chips back on the ground.
Wont the person you subbing from give you a clue as to how much they are willing to pay or are they shopping? $500 per day and ill give you 8 hours of me and my equipment.[on the job] Chem extra. That is what i would bid it at US$$ PAYMENT DUE AT END OF JOB.
