plastic gas tank

I have a 12 gallon plastic gas tank, since i got it I have noticed that the top and sides get sucked in a little when the pw is running for a while. When I open the cap I hear the air rush in. The cap has a spring loaded valve that only works when pressed, It says to push valve prior to opening cap to prevent gas from possibly being sprayed. I would think that the valve would work auto so that the pressure would always be equal. anyone alse notice this???

I think your cap is defective as it should automatically let air in so that the machine can pull gas, otherwise after a while the machine will not pull gas anymore and it will shut down. I had a marine tank that had a threaded fitting that you had to open when running the machine but keep closed when not running so the gas does not evaporate.

Yes... the plastic gas tank/gas cap issue.... just spent about 5 days down because the engine kept cutting off.... turns out it was a combination of two things happening simultaneously.... the faulty gas cap creating a vapor lock, and as a result, caused a valve in the carb to stick shut..... as well as plastic shavings left in the tank from the manufacturer from when they drilled the fuel line holes in the tank, was clogging up the fuel line.

So, I was sent a replacement gas cap from my distributor I bought the skid from, but I still as part of my engine start procedure, I still unscrew the cap and run with it loose... making sure to re-tighten it before going down the road.... my tank sucked in too.
