Hey fellow pressure washers I have never run an ad in the phone book before, never had to word of mouth and flyers and referrals have always worked in the past but I have recently moved and having trouble getting steady work. What type of ad should I run 1 line, Small Box,Large Box, 1/4 page Ad? What has worked best for you all and what is most cost effective in each of your opinions?

I run a 5 line box ad in deck cleaning and pressure power cleaning.I do it in 6 phone books.I also send out thousands of post cards that I print myself,These go out mostly from late summer on.That and referrals, word of mouth and repeat business gives me all the work I can handle.Last spring I had several days where I got over 50 phone calls a day and one day I got 62.The phone book can bring you a deck in early march or late november when you really need the money so it is worth it to me.I also have one liners(phone # plus one line) in gutter cleaning, asphalt contractors(driveway sealing) painting contractors, a five liner in snow removal. And don't forget if you get an ad in one book you will also be listed in all of those generac books too.Just the name and number, but that is good for a couple of jobs a year.An 8 liner is usually 20 or 30 bucks more it depends on the book.Everyone says that a business card size ad works, but from what I have seen the last 7 years I have been keeping track is they are in the book one year and out...that tells me that they are not generating enough business to justify the expense. My phone book expenses are up to about $550 per month. They pay for themselves in a month during the spring.
