Really dirty decks

O.K. I had a house wash yesterday with a deck, decks around back in constant shade and full of DEEP,DARK MOLD. I tried Full flow straight from the can (DS) deck wash concentrate, I'M PRETTY SURE I HEARD THE DECK LAUGHING AT ME AT THAT POINT, didn't even knock a dent in it. Eventually I went with DS'r right in the bleach container and soaked it for about 30 min. hit it with 40 for about 3 hrs and ALMOST got it clean.

How do you get really old set in mold out without ripping the wood?

I'm sure this has been anwsered a hundred times, but I'm also sure this wont be the last stupid A&$ ? I have.

Use the stripper

When decks have that deep down moldy dirt, go right for your stripper. Remember that a stripper does have surfactants in them and are great cleaners as well as strippers. Yes, you have be careful about strength and dwell time to minimize the "fuzzies" but your stripper will do a great job killing the growth, and then cleaning the dirt.

If there is mold you can scrape with a knife you almost have no choice but to go with sodium hypochlorite (bleach). I despise using bleach on wood but you need to remove that growth before you can make a dent. The most efficient process is to hit it with downstreamed 12% then layer a commercial stripper on top. Follow that by an acid bath and deck will look good to go.
