WMBD/WYZZ TV – PEORIA -- A local fast food restaurant closes after the kitchen goes up in flames. The Burger King kitchen on University goes up in flames around noon Sunday. Peoria Fire Department responded to the call, firefighters say there was a build up of grease in the exhaust system. They say this is the second time in six months this has happened. Customers and employees were in the restaurant at the time, but no one was hurt. The Burger King will be closed until all the smoke is cleaned out. The health department will have to give it the 'okay' before it re-opens.

I have been told that burger kings are really hard to clean but then again I have no clue how to clean a hood:D

Burger kings have gone to a new broiler that burns hotter than the old ones. It also has a smaller plenum to shrink the install size. I said about a year ago that the BK's that did not keep up on cleanings would catch fire and the install guy I spoke with fully agreed. I hate to say it but you will see alot more of these fires at BK's

BKs arent much harder to do than any other place if well maintained by a good cleaner. I do 2 since they were new, piece of cake. If they are not cleaned properly the broiler grease turns to carbon and then transforms into some sort of mutant substance thats harder than concrete. No chemical and no pw will touch it. The only way to get it off is a hammer and chisel.

No. they all have a 3 fan and 3 hood set up older stores can have a 4 fan and 4 hood set up with a 5th hood used as a baking oven.

All I see are micros if the back. they still actaully cook?

The only thing they "cook" are the pies and they do grill the patties and chicken but it is 1/2 cooked then flash frozen at delivery so all they are really doing is heating it up.
