Sending out flyers

Just wondering how many people out there send out flyers to potential clients, and wondering do you get alot of replies or it it a waste of time?

I have sent out 2 different postcard mailings so far. Kind of low response rate at around 1.5% on the first batch of 1000. Only 3 jobs so far from that batch. Hopefully it was bad timing. I sent them out right before the Nor'easter hit this area. The second set of postcards only went out a couple days ago, so they are probably just getting to the addressees now. I have my fingers crossed for a better response this time.

My wife has been putting a flyer in with her Avon books. She delivers around 300 every other week. I have gotten 12 jobs from those so far. All from my wifes regular customers. The flyers are nothing special either. Not much for graphics, essentially a list of our services with our logo at the top. No color either. Just a black and white photo copy of the original.

This is my first year in business so I do not have any historical data for you, just what I am seeing right now. I hope it helps in some way.

I guess they're a staple of the "poor man's marketing campaign" along with door hangers and brochures.
 
got 5000 for 326.00-356.00? had a typo! isentout roughly 2000 postcards and got 1 job? last week put out 100 or so doorhangers and got one... hope it goes as well for the other 4900:D
