I was on the internet today and came pass this. Guys check this out I think this will be a great idea. This product would be great for the guys that wash at night to prevent people from complaining or calling the police about noise.

What do you guys think?

That looks like a good idea, wonder if it can be modified to fit engines that have the dual pipes going to the muffler like the 16hp and larger Honda and B&S engines?

I have been wanting a quieter muffler, would be nice if it can work.

I had one and I don't know if it was any quieter, that was on an Aegis 28. For the most noise reduction you're supposed to use the resonator which is sold separate. For higher hp you need more plates. For the v-twins there is a manifold from the manufacturer.

Thanks for the info Tom, I need to look into that.

My experience is not all the noise comes from the exhaust on an air cooled machine.

Actually you are right on that . The water jacket for liquid cooled engines do a amazing job of soaking up the noise as they run. With the hondas I found that the best noise reducer was running the machine in the van and venting to the outside. Also where you park the machine makes a tremendous diffrence if you can park along a line of trees, bushes or vegitation it does a good job of soaking up the noise rather than reflecting it out if you were to park next to a building. Sort of like stealth for pressure washing.

I took care of the problem with the noise on my machine. I took it to my muffler shop and had my guy add a muffler that goes on a Toyota Corolla on top of the Vanguard muffler. Now I have 2 mufflers. Pretty quiet now and it only cost me $60.

So far no problems with any back pressure using 2 mufflers to cut down on the noise. I was at a major distributor last week and they actually liked how I had both mufflers mounted.

Standard muffler then I put a ']' then mounted the 2nd muffler that was off a small Toyota vehicle. The noise has cut down considerably using 2 mufflers.

How about a few pics for us Vince. I was leaning towards extending my pipe under my trailer, but your idea sounds good also.

I will get a few pics posted this afternoon. You can also do what you are thinking about doing also Gerald. I ran a pipe from the muffler when I had the unit on my trailer set up. I ran it through the floor of the trailer pointed at the ground. This also helps alot since the ground will absorb alot of the noise. The closer you can get it to the ground without interferring with anything the better off you are.

Sorry I didn't get any pics up yet. Just an update on this though.

After running the machine for 4 straight hours on a 13 hour job yesterday I started having back flow problems. The motor ate 2 air filters. The 2nd muffler is being cut off either today or tomorrow and I will run it like I had my on trailer just straight down to the ground and let the ground absorb alot of the noise.

I had just a car muffler on a Briggs unit many years ago and never had issue but that was before all the new emissions nonsense. Not sure how well they will work now, I am pretty sure 2 mufflers is not a good idea though.

Any ideas on noise reduction would be greatly appreciated, we just landed a big contract for a chain of fast food restauraunts and need to worh throughout the night. Because of the close proxmity of some of the locations to apartments complexes, retirement homes and residential neighborhoods, we need to muffle the noise.

We are installing a scooter muffler in the next week or two. I'll let you know how it goes. I've never had problems in the past with my air filter... Is that from blow back spitting fuel from the carb?
We've only had trouble with exhaust valves, but I guess that's from not enough back pressure.

I was having oil coming up from the blow by and into the air filter. I loosened the oil cap a bit and it took care of the problem for a bit. I'm off to the muffler shop this morning to have everything modified again.

I had a brand new muffler put on yesterday. It's actually a muffler that they put on Nissan and Toyota trucks. I would say it's cut down the noise by about 40 to 50 percent. I will post a picture of it tomorrow morning for you guys. $60 for the muffler and $40 labor. Total $100. Factory mufflers run about $100 to $140 for my engine here.
