Systems class

Never mentioned it because I never thought about it.... but recently I went to a small class in Alabama with Amerex. Very good class. LOTS of discussion about the importance of hood cleaning and paint booth cleaning which could eventually end up as good news for greasers.

Also, have a look at these systems:
http://www.amerex-fire.com/prm.html

Accoring to the rep, they tested with a 2500 PSI power washer @ 2xx degrees and all sorts of chemical. Also left it soaking in hood cleaning degreaser for 30 days with no effects other than taking the lettering off.

What did they soak?

Amerex has a detection system that is pnuematic. The system uses a red plastic tube that is pressurized. When excessive heat melts a hole in the tube, the loss of pressure activates the fire suppression system. The plastic tube is supported every 18" by a stand off bracket. The tubing is looped up into the exhaust duct. I've done 2 systems with the stuff. Amerex may have tested the tubing with a nozzle and soaked the tubing in cleaning chemical, but did they test a spinner nozzle hooking the tube?

The same basic actuation/detection system is used in marine applications. I understand the system was developed in Europe.

We discussed this several months ago under 'Thermal Tubing' thread. At that time I was afraid to hit it with the p/w and also afraid what the chem would do. I am now satisfied that the tubing is not as frail as it looks and can withstand normal cleaning, however I have since ceased service to that location for another reason. The installer terminated the tubing in a large coil which was tied off. The tie had broken and we had to coil the tubing and slide the filters under it. Scary for me. The employees regularly clean the filters and I was afraid they might shove the filters to the end and crush the terminal tubing which was hanging down below the plenum. I called the servicing firm but they did not come out to repair at that time. I could sense that we would be blamed no matter what, therefore aborted the account entirely. They might have to call Douglas to fly out here to service the system - he may be the only one in the west who knows much about these.
