tank question

making some adjustments for uor 2nd season. We had two 30 gal tanks pulling from the top with the 5800. there were times that the pump seemed to be working hard to get things started when applying cleaners to house or roof. This year I am looking at a standup 50 gal and a horz.65 that are plumbed from the bottom and will relocate the pump at a lower elavation in the trailer to help forse things along. How does the chems effect the fittings at the tank bottom. any advice to not chase leaks all summer. thanks TROY
 
thank you for the responce russ. We are trying to keep every thing in one enclosed trailer for now. hence the small tanks. but that will let us do a couple of jobs before mixing again. good luck to you and yours this year troy
 
Troy I had 65 gal leg tanks holding 12.5 and roof mix, the bottom bulkhead seals would go about every 3 months. Always started out as a small drip.
 
i have done some research here in town and i can get a 250 gallon tank for 200 plus tax its plumbed at the bottom. its one of those with the wire cage around it with a bulk head on top. dont know if that was any help.

I use all banjo bulkheads and upgrade to the viton gaskets, they last much longer. We also tef-tape then apply puddy to threads before connecting.
 
Tim, you obviously are better at it than I am.

I use the Banjo bulkhead fittings I get from my tank supplier and used the flat viton gaskets and then went to the O-ring type and they still leaked. That tank that leaked (the only tank that ever leaked) was the roof mix tank. I guess the bleach was too much for the viton.

Maybe your viton is made better than what I get here?
 
I didn't intend to sound better than anyone, we just don't deal with leaks very much. 10.5/12.5 will break down your gaskets over time, but you should get more than a couple of months. I had more leaks on my other truck before I started using the better quality tanks, fittings, and gaskets. Stress on fittings due to tank movement, plumbing angles, and so on will cause them to leak also. We use hose to plumb with because it "gives" and is lighter than 80/pvc.

The only reason I was using the tank with the bulkhead fitting is that they were out of the pco tanks and would be several months away and I just picked up what they had in stock. Now I have a pco and no fittings at all.

I need to flush out that roof tank with the bulkhead fitting in it so I can use it for something else. Any idea what to use to get all the bleach residue out? Soak it in some soap for a few days then rinse it for a while?

I gotcha buddy, a "mild" vinegar and water solution will neutralize any residue left behind. Leave the lid off or cracked it may off-gas a little, no big deal.
