Wall fans

Just wondering, does anyone have any tricks they use when pulling a wall mounted fan? We did a building last night that had 4 wall fans and those suck. On top of that, it was a Chinese place that had not been done in a long time, if ever.

When you say pulling a wall mounted fan are you talking about taking the fan of the wall completely?

Most of the wall mounted fans we run into do not require to be taken off the wall mount, especially if the horizontal duct run from the hood to the fan isnt that long.

I know sometimes the horizontal run from the hood to the fan is to long to be accesed from inside the hood.

Try removing the top ring of the fan, "if there is one" and clean the inside bottom of the fan blades and fan pedastal from inside the hood,if thats not possible install a access panel in the duct close to the fan so it may be accessed. If you cant install a access panel because of obstructions and clean it properly then I would leave this one alone.

It all depends upon what kind of fans they are and how they are mounted,if they can be removed fairly easily and then cleaned and reinstalled fairly easily? I say do it.

When taking such things apart be prepared for PROBLEMS with the re instalation and the proper running of equipment. Aluminum bends easily, that will off set the balance of the fans. The wireing? The belts and pulleys? Are they going to pay you what its worth?

Man there is a entire list of things I would need to know before telling you what to do.

Are the fans easily accesible from the ground? Do you have to do this from a ladder or from scaffolding?

Got any pictures? They would help us to advise you. Or tell you to walk away.

Sorry about the lack of details. I had it all in my mind and didnt type it out.

But, yes, these are accessable from ground ladders, about 20'.
They have ducts that are about 40' with no access panels. From the hood, goes up 4-6' and then turns into the 40' run to the wall fans.
The only good way to get to the duct was to take the fans off, like a roof mounted fan.

We already did these, I was just looking for tips for next time.

So how did it go for you? There must have been areas to bybass because of lack of access and the long run of the ducts.
