Web BAsed Bidding!!!!

Very cool. Looks like there is an estimating calculator for just about everything on there.

I can see where the lawn care calc's could be useful. The power washing one, not so much. It's basically doing what I already do with a caclulator, or am I missing something. Which I frequently do.

Bump.

I've been considering adding something like this to my website.

The goal is to generate a higher conversion rate per visit to my site. I can see via Google Analytics that the traffic to my site is slowly trending up. That's a good think. I just want more of those visitors to want to contact me.

If I'm shopping online to buy, say, a used car for example...if I find two identical cars and one has a listed price and the other says "call for price", I'm going to call about the one that has already told me the price. I'm not going to waste time begging someone for a price only to find out that it is out of my budget. So my thinking is, if I can quickly give them a price by them just entering a few numbers and clicking a button, they would be more likely to call me instead of going to the next provider on Google.

Now, the #1 risk I see and the thing I am sure is on the tip of everyone's tongue - competitors using my site to get my rates and low-balling. But I'm thinking...competitors don't know who's visiting my site, so they don't have access to them in order to low-ball. Also, maybe putting the calculator on my site will help drive traffic to my site and help push it up the ranks?

Any of you guys do something like this? Am I missing something? Do you think the potential rewards (more conversions) outweigh the risks (low-ballers)?

Thanks guys.

I'm just a small fish in a big pond trying to get my share of the worms.

Good idea, but to many variables to list. I'm getting a video made now, and the stats on that are 72% more people are willing to go with your product because of the video.we shall see.

Im all about cutting edge technology and progressive forward thinking ideas

However, what troubles me about your post is if you set it up the way you posted your leaving out one key component in getting sales--YOU!!

To me your site would be like a reverse of thumbtack- and i do believe your competitor can easily pose as a client

just my opinion

Dave, I think it's more of a... how you market yourself.

People won't buy JUST BECAUSE of the price you give. Hell... Used cars can give prices all day every day, and still not make sales.

What you need to do is build value in the services you offer.

I'm sure there's plenty of instances where you're comparing two (or more) products, and you choose one EVEN IF it is a higher price point... And why is that? BECAUSE YOU SEE VALUE!

ZTR drivers are Geniuses!! ( just watch us put one in a lake ) But for real, we bid everything the same..... think how long it will take..... multiply buy ideal hourly rate, add more to subtotal until it looks better. present to client.. close the deal!! However....... i can make some badass multiple page integrated spreadsheets on Excel!! --- -and even ad a few graphs for visual affect!!

putting your price on your site gives them no reason to call you but actually encourages someone to shop around

That's the type of feedback I was hoping to get. That's something I never considered.

I'm just trying to figure out a way to turn more of the website visits into calls. Had a thought that a pricing calculator might help with that.

On a side note - I did have a representative from the local rapid transit call about me cleaning one of the bus stations where the 4000 sq ft staging area was covered in bird droppings. I was going to clean it this weekend. Then he called back and said that his regional manager told him that they have a guy who does it for them. Tried to argue my case, but lost out. That would have been a huge win for me.

Thanks for the feedback.

Dave- I see some real positives in your post

You say you see your google rankings increasing- Thats great

I think its a matter of time before you start getting more calls

See I would have to disagree. Most people want to know the price above everything. I can't even count how many times I have gotten a call and they ask, what's a round about price. Americans want things NOW. Most people will find a price and if they like it they well call.

I agree and disagree with you both. Haha

I think it's great to have a web based bidder because there are percentages of searchers who don't want to talk to anybody and just book their cleaning online. Just want a price and book. That doesn't mean you can't up sell when you arrive at the property or explain why the bid was off online. And just because you have a bidder doesn't mean a large percentage still won't call. Most people still call. I have a bidder I built on our sites and there is terms and conditions that state the bid is a ballpark and we will try to honor it but there are things that must be seen in person.

Most home owners understand. And if you are a good sales man than it really shouldn't matter if you get an opportunity to get to the home you should be able to up sell or do it for that price based on your discretion.

But we also book many clients just off them using our bidder and it's great to get an email that say $250 driveway cleaning booked! Haha
Who cares if they just get the price and don't submit because they thought it was too high. Those are typically the same callers who price shop anyway.

At the same time you are giving your competiton your numbers and there are disadvantages I see. But I don't waste time thinking of the negative too much and there is clearly advantages.

My biggest concern with a bidder is that your clients information is not hosted on their server!

My .02 cents.

So my idea of a calculator was not an online quote/booking tool. It was simply an estimator. This would give them am idea ballpark of whst to expect. However, they still would have to contact me, and I would still sell myself and start that relationship.

I'm not looking at automating my bidding and booking process. I'm just trying to entice more people to contact me before clicking the next guy's website.

I guess my thought was that, if they saw an estimate that they were comfortable with, it's much easier to call me already having a good idea of what it would cost, instead of calling 3 or 4 people, potentially getting voicemail, explain the need every time, and get frustrsted if they don't like the prices.

Instant information, less hassle, no need to waste precious time. If I can provide that service to my potential customers, then I would think they would perfer to do business with me.

Ron, I believe you're the sales/marketing guru. What are your thoughts?
