The reason I ask is not to cause controversy about new orgs such as the Uamcc but in my own thoughts i belong to over 15 orgs.

I myself will be looking at those I rejoin this year.

I will rejoin all the hospitality groups and grocery.

The realestate orgs will sorten up.

I was wondering if anyone else had thoughts????????

Oh, sorry I thought you said "orgies".....No comment on "orgs".

Seriously, I'm not in any, but only because when I've done it in the past I didn't get enough work from it to justify the cost. I will be trying again this year.

NO way, not me, I'm not joining anything orgs su*k. LOL

I will rejoin the few I am in now. Off the top of my head I know I have gotten over $60K worth of work from 2 orgs I joined last year and I forsee a lot more jobs from those orgs in 2009 as members see more & more of me

You can't just join and hope the work comes in, you have to participate in some of their functions meetings etc. got to get your face & company in their faces

I will be joining the UAMCC also this year. We are working on some good stuff and I hear the website is going to be full with kicka*s stuff for members and lead generation too. Plus I like that we are going to promote us to the country as the professionals we are

I am joining our local Realtor Org and will re-join BBB again. BBB sends about $10k/year just in leads. Don't know how much more in getting bids over the competition that might not be member.

Tony... Some orgs offer more than just leads. Look at some of the other benefits they offer. The UAMCC is working on discounts for payroll processing, office software, printing services and more. Together the savings may justify the membership cost at the same time enable the ORG to do other beneficial things for it's members like putting on educational Round Tables and Mass Marketing campaigns to make the public aware of our professional industry.

I've always been a believer in orgs, networking and associations. I'll be joining UAMCC along with the other groups I'm already in. I may even give the BBB another shot this year since I'm pulling some of my advertising and yellow page ads. I'm going to do something different this year and I'm looking forward to seeing how well it will work.

I belong to a couple different orgs. I don't belong to orgs that are just for show. The UAMCC is a contractor org. the PDCA is for contractors, etc. Joing an org for getting work is useless. I belong to the local Chamber of Commerce, because I am the only coatings, pressure washing business located in the org. out of 600+ members. The days of getting work from a social club is gone. People will scruitinize where they spend their money. The PDCA has never gotten me a job. However they showed us how to grow our business by 20% for five years running. The UAMCC could do this also. People seem to think if they belong to a local org. they will recieve work. Not so. My 12 yrs. of business taught me to grow our buisiness with only the best business. Mary's flower business org., no good. Bob's org on mold remediation, great! Money spent in the right place will get a return. Thank you.

You're right. I wasn't thinking about UAMCC which I probably will join. I was thinking about the local orgs.

That accurately reflects my experience also.

I was thinking of joining the local chamber of commerce. A pool cleaning buddy of mine told me it was the best $300 he had ever spent on his buisness. The amount of jobs he had gotten by joining them more than paid for the membership.

We are PWNA members currently.
When UAMCC begins accepting memberships we will join. I'm excited about this organization in particular because I think its REALLY going to benefit our industry.
Dang, I sound like a spokesperson already!! LOL...

I think people will likely join orgs in 2009. The economy will play a huge part in this. For the low volume contractors who does 250 house washed at 350 each (about 80K in gross sales) it may be a tough call for them to pull the trigger.A 400 dollar membership is 5 percent of their gross sales.

With that being said... it will come down to investment verses return. Orgs like the UAMCC has an initiative to put in place as many member benefits as they can right out of the box. This will be a huge perk to get contractors to write a check.

The big items that will make an org appealing are 1)affordable healthcare plans 2) affordable tangible contractor education; contractor education that equal an immediate increase in sales acquisition 3) group rates for liability policies, dental plans 4)discount plans on equipment and soap.

An org will draw members if the benifits outweigh the membership dues and the membership fee is reasonable to where contractors can afford the fee. I look forward to seeing the complete package the UAMCC puts on the table.
