Winterizing your equipment?

I know many of you are in areas of the country that never see temps below 50.

But here in Ohio it gets cold sometimes very cold.

We store all of our equipment in a heated building so my question is not how to winterize but more how do you do any work in the winter?

Ive seen mention of ice dam removal? how do you keep the equipment from freezing just getting to the job?

Or freezing while doing the job?

More curiosity than anything.

I deal with this every winter with our open trailer....Antifreeze, heat tape, blow out all the lines with air and block the skid from direct highway wind. Wrap the reels with a cover or bungee a tarp over them. The metal parts of the skid like the manifold and unloader are the first parts that will freeze but depending on the distance and temp, everything can freeze.

I've also short cycled the system...turn on the heat and warm the water in the flow tank before you depart (I generally roll with 50-100 gal). It doesn't need to be steaming hot, 60 degrees is fine. Once the water is warm, turn off the heat and drop the line in the tank with the ball valve open and PW idling. the water flow and temp will keep it from a hard freeze.

Enclosed trailers are not really a problem unless the temps are well under freezing.

Run a tee, or take the line from you bulkhead to your PW, put it in a jug of windshield washer fluid/anti freeze. Turn PW on with either no gun or the gun open and watch for color or lots of bubbles to turn off the PW. To remove just fill the same container you used until it is full.

Or you can do what I do, insulated box truck that sits in a shop all night. Fill the tanks so the warmth from the shop warms the water over night and assuming you are not running the hoses outside the truck and you are just going from shop to site in less then an hour start the PW and go.
