Average population

What is the average population per hood cleaner? We have about 6 or 7 cleaners with a population of 350000 people.

Thankyou for any replies.

I would bet that two will serve the line share. It also depends on the reach of the cleaners, meaning are they will to go into other markets and city.

David

Let me ask this. How far would you travel to perform hood cleaning? If you had a full nite of work.

Thanks for anserwing in advance.

Travel meaning 100-200 miles. Why are you asking the question? If you have two jobs at 2.5 hr ea-thats 5 hr plus drive time and OT. If the job is longer, then stay over and this could be pre set. The job reflects the travel time in the price of service.

This is the way I work my crews, and it works well. If by travel you mean out of state-forget it. That would be well out of reach for us.

Take Care

Kyle,

Please don't take this the wrong way, but, why kitchen exhaust cleaning ? You are in the carpet cleaning business, it seems to me a natural tie-in would be - window cleaning.
Unless you are already doing it!

Exhaust cleaning is extremely labor intensive which you have under control - but the training, I'd recommend the Phil Ackland training in texas. About $1500. The equipment is additional.

Window cleaning takes training - but it's the ideal side business, as year round as hoods, day work, low initial start up, labor intensive and everyone who has carpets - - has windows.

Don't take my question the wrong way. It was just a thought I had.

Hey Jones I appreciate you posting. I can appreciate the labor issue. From what I have seen of exhaust cleaning. I think I can handle it. The work is always the basic part of any biz. I plan on hiring 1 to 2 people to do the work.

I am at a time in my business when I need to hire someone.
Thankyou for your time and opinion.

I'm also considering doing exhaust cleaning in the quad cities. I currently service Illinois further south. I'm running 5 trucks full time and will put a 6th unit in the quad cities. Lots of restaurants there, I fell there's plenty of work for a few high quality cleaning companies. The splash & dashers will do their damage but always fail in the end. My advice would be hire real trustworthy people and train them after you have been trained. Be prepaired to be out at night with them for good while. Good luck.

Thanks Doug for the advice. I appreciate the response. It sounds like there is some opprutunity for us all.

Send me an e mail. Maybe we could work together.

My great idea is to bundle carpet cleaning and exhaust cleaning together. Gives me an edge on the competiton.

The idea is not new and for many reason the system does not work. One must focus and carpets and hood cleaning is from one end to the other.

To start with the crew doing hoods tend to get grease on everthing, now we are going to now do the carpets! Grease on shoes-hands-uniforms and so on. Mixing oil and water. You set yourself up to fail. Go for one and be the best.

David

I would have to agree with David, Finish the exhaust cleaning and back out of the back door wiping each last footprint and stay away from the carpet!
Now if you have two seperate crews make sure they dont park the trucks/vans near each other...grease oozes!

Hey Thanks guys. What I mean by combining services. Is that if I did both the exhaust cleaning and carpet cleaning. they may recieve a discount. This is a marketing system.

The work would be performed on different nites.

I have been cleaning carpets when a exhaust cleaner was in the house.

I thank you for thinking of all the angles.

Dont go easy on me. I have thick skin. I want the truth as you all see it.

Thankyou Kyle

You seen to hasve missed the point. Either way same night or next night you have the same problem. Grease and carpets-When anyone cleans hood systems the equipment, tools, boots, gloves, pen, pencils, plastic-everthing has grease on it. We maintin our equipment better than 60% of the hood cleaners and I would not even consider carpets.

We service a large convention center and when we cross the open floors I put plastic down so that problems can be prevented. Just one little smudge will be the problem. It will find the carpet trust me.

Now if you have a dedicated employees and truck for carpets that is another thing, but hard to control.

hoods

Hey Kyle, I suppose my advise might help since I do many different services. First and most important if you have not done hoods you are in for a supprise. You need to have some basic training atleast so you can perfect the art of cleaning the systems. The better you get the less water you will use, and in this field the less you use the better. Your carpet cleaning machine might work but the heat level might not stay at the 200f level which you really need. I seperate my services and it can be done but try something easier until you can master a powerwashing unit first. Or you will bite the bullet the first time you do a oriental restaurant .
