Hi everybody,
I am curious about insurance. I know that's a "loaded" question, but I am finding it difficult to "grasp" the finer aspects of insuring a power washing business.
First off I know that a BOP (Business Owners Policy) for Completed Operations and General Liability Insurance is a must (especially here in NY where the word "sue" is learned before the words "Mommy" or "Daddy") and a starting amount is about 2 Million aggregate with 1 Million per occurrence (not to mention personal injury and property damage).
The General Liability and associated insurance doesn't seem to be too hard to understand, what is hard to understand is the insurance industry's total lack of understanding of just what power washing really is. They either try to lump it into janitorial services or some other "fuzzy" category like "Waterproofing- By Pressure Application".
Is there a SPECIFIC classification code for Power Washing?? Or am I just dealing with a bunch of guys who are more interested in getting a commission check rather than seeing I get the right kind of insurance for a fair price??
OK, so who do YOU guys use for your BOP/General Liability Insurance?? What coverages do YOU have?? and if that's not enough to start a flurry of replies to this post, how do you insure a trailer mounted system?? The same guys at the insurance companies keep trying to insure it under an auto policy.... It is only insured under an auto policy WHILE IT IS ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE and or IN MOTION.... when it is stationary and not attached to the vehicle (like when not in use) I need to insure it against vandalism and or theft... I understand this to be called "crime insurance"..
HELP!!
Any insurance guru's out there who might be a little familiar with this situation and possibly the NY area??
I'm getting a headache... All I wanna do is clean some stuff, not get all bogged down in idiocy...
