I am going to put a post up and you can respond on any bb if you would be willing to go if this was set-up. THis would be a two day event for all in the internet community and this would also be open to any distributors that ever went to a Bulletin board for whatever reason. THe shirts that would be made for this event would have every single bb that is represented. In no specific order all shirts on there front backs and sleeves would read first (In no specific order) PWI,TGS,PWN,PTS,Pressurenet,CLN(If they ever go back online) Orgs with bb's such as UAMCC,PWNA and IWCA if they have one. And on top of that we could have patches made up from any distributors/manufacturers who want to help sponsor this and they would also be allowed to show there wares.

Should this be free..I'm not sure yet. My thinking is the bb's thru donations, the distributors and the manufactors should pay sponsership money so they can show there wares. There is so much that we can expound on here. but in essense this would be a Huge RT and it will be titled
Helping to unite the industry one day at a time.

Can this be done. Comment if you like and answer the pole above.

John all the BBS and org were represented at the Beach.

The newest was Lawsite.com

I have built friendships with them all, Beth & Rod sponsored a bucket prize at MB. They gave a GPS away!!!!

All the org present, UAMCC, IWCA, PWNA , CETA, PWNC,

You forgot alot of BBS...LOL

The only BBS that was not there was PTS. dispite my banning I invited BOB to the beach anyway. (Three calls and he never returned them, despite I'm a customer)

John, its called www.nationalcleaningexpo.com

Did you miss this?????????

By the way John in TExas WCR will also be included....WCR is our newest freind.

Hey Ron hows the PWNA convention turning out so far? No I didnt miss that. I was thinking of having them all represented maybe even have them section off in groups. But you pretty much did that in away. I'm just reaching for idea's that may or may not have been done.

I was going to say that Ron and the PWI and NCE has been doing this, you need to get to an event to see.

He invites vendors, contractors and organizations to attend, a lot do show up.

Vendors get to speak, organizations get to speak and some contractors get up there and speak also.

Names are on the shirts.

PWNC had a large meeting that was just for them, any organization can do that if they want.

I think that patches on t-shirts would look tacky. That would be an added cost for the vendors that I do not know if they wanted to have them designed, made and then given out or for a large additional expense, have them attached to t-shirts. Not sure if that is a good idea, who really looks at patches?

Distributors, Manufacturers and Vendors do have displays, talk about their products and some have done demonstrations.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was free due to the vendors sponsoring the event and they do show their wares and some do demonstrations.

In other words, Ron has been doing this for years now.

Come on John, where have you been for the last year?
Did you miss the boat?

Don't you read about the NCE events?

Have you been to one?

Do you ever visit the links that are posted about NCE events?

What you suggested with this thread is being done already, you just need to get to a NCE event.

Come on John, read the links, visit the NCE website, watch all the videos from the Round Tables, read the comments that people post about the events. Everything is there, all you have to do is go to the website and read or read threads about the NCE events and what happens there.

With this thread started, an outsider not ever been here or been to a NCE event or read about one, watched the videos, read comments about the event, etc.... would think that your idea is a great one until they start reading about all the past events, start watching the videos, go to the NCE site and see what is going on and then they would see that all you mentioned is and has been happening and wonder where you have been John?

Forgot to mention that you are doing a great job Ron!

Keep up the good work.

Lawnsite............
I truly hope we leave landscapers out of pressure washing.....I left landscaping because most believed 40 bucks an hour was great money. If we educate landscapers about the potential of pressure washing we will ruin our industry.....

I agree with that. If landscapers want to investigate the pressure washing industry of their own accord I'm all for it. But I think actively pursuing them to join with us is a bad idea. Landscapers are already buying equipment and it wouldn't be much more to buy a hot washer. On the other hand window washers, for the most part are not equipment heavy and can work well with our industry as partners.

Tony the 4 out 6 window washing companies that I know all have hot rigs.....Inviting anyone into this industry would be a awful thing for our future. If a individual wants to learn that's fine. To invite lawnsite (the biggest forum in landscaping ) would be a long term nightmare to pressure washing contractors ....Period!

I have a different philosphy about that. I would love for the Lawnsites to want to do a joint venture. Face it no matter how you slice it anyone with half a brain can do either. Its just how you go about it that makes a world of difference. I know a few contractors including my own cousin who have a business that consist of Landscaping and Powerwashing. There are some on this bb that do the same. Its all about networking..but just because you go to there Convention/RT's or our Convention/RT's there is no garantee that you will be successful. The bottom line is you have to be driven.

So I would most definitely support or at least listen to the Lawn guys if that wanted to do a Co Convention or RT.

As for me starting this thread Ron can tell ya I started a similiar post around 6 yrs ago way before NCE was born. It went over real well but the org. I was heavely involved with back then did not like the idea at all. There were not fans of the internet crowd back then.

I'll give Ron his Kudo's he did with NCE pretty much what I talked about years ago..and back then I probably got most of my ideas from Beth Borrego and Ron on this.........

Another quick thing about Ron M. way back when there were just a few Roundtables in this industry that most never knew or heard about. Ron inspired the Powers to be back then to get Roundtables going and to do as many as they can. That branched off to where we are today with RT's and there Ron is King. This here where going back to about 8-9 yrs ago if not longer when most here weren't even in business.( this is not to slight the ones who have been in business for along time but I am just stating the facts that most powerwashing companies fail in there first 5 years in existence which is why I am guessing that most here and on the other bb's werent around longer then 7 years ago)

Just a little history lesson.

I didn't know that. That is not the case in this area.

Ok then, why don't we invite the bug spray guys too? Heck, they're already setup to do house washes.

Mobile car washers?
Plumbers? (sewer jetters)
Painters already filling up the Org...:grin-devilish:

In my personal opinion I don't see a problem with having a bunch of different types of businesses at a convention.

What do you think about this:

Splitting PWI off into forums that can only be accessed if you can prove you are doing that kind of work.

In other words, I can't get into the heart of the Roof washing forum because I don't wash roofs.

Or a painter can't get into the flatwork forum because he doesn't do flatwork. (or anybody with out a surface cleaner isn't allowed into the flatwork section)

The HVAC boards are like that to an extent. I had to prove who I was and what I do before I was allowed past the elementary sections.

What about that idea?

I'm all for free exchange of information, but free information should be given to those who show the initiative to get out and do the work the right way.

John
Go ahead....There's a company in your town named Brickman group. Its a national company that has destroyed many small companies across the us. I have them in Nashville too....They have more PM's on speed dail than you even know.....Let them start up in long island and you will be shaking your head when your business is gone. A pm would rather have one vendor than multiple. Landscapers is the one group that can take over pressure washing.....hands down....They have the capital.......I just got out of landscaping.....and paid cash for all my pressure washing equipment.....If I could do it dont your think the avg. local landscaper can do it. The guys grossing 500000-2000000 would do it to become a one source...

Yea but most landscapers don't care to Powerwash and most Powerwashers don't care to landscape. So no I don't worry about the landscapers. My cousins business grosses in the 3 million range and he does predomintly Landscaping with some commercial Powerwashing. He has no effect on my business even though he is 10x + the size of mine. I don't worry about these type guys. I specialize in a certain type of Powerwashing which my cousin can never do. He can take the cheap Commercial jobs but I have my self set-up where I can charge more then him and I can get it. I won't do large commercial accounts that pay 3-4 cents a square because I don;t need to support 30+ guys. You have to find your nitch and not be worried about the other business. I don't and I do OK.

fleetwash is another tremendous Powerwashing company that undercuts many in this industry. Yes I did lose out on some potential Commercial accounts because of them but once again they don't effect me at all. They charge so little that they can have what they get.

I like to network with all types of businesses but I am confident enough to not worry about them undercutting me. I'll make money no matter how you slice or dice it because I have my steady customer base that wants my business.

I love networking with any business that wants to do it. Don't worry about these other businesses....just take care of your own and you'll be fine.

No truer words have ever been spoken!!! I TOTALY AGREE LOU!!!!!!

John you said "Anyone with half a brain can do either" IS THAT REALLY WHAT YOU THINK??????

People with half a brain Pressure Washing is whats giving this Industry a Black Eye to begin with, for crying out loud!!!!!!!!! Now you want to embrace Landscapers??????? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????

You also go on to say " I don't worry about landscapers" because " I specialize in a certain type of Pressure Washing " well thats GREAT FOR YOU BUT WHAT ABOUT EVERYBODY ELSE???????

" I'll Make Money " "Don't Effect Me At All" " I Have A Steady Customer Base" What about the other guys out there busting their tails having to compete against these Lowballing Idiots!!!!!!!!

I got to tell you John, I'm pretty disappointed to see you post something like this man, I hope theres not a mutual feeling on this subject with other people we know!!!

Be smart and don't let other industries infiltrate pressure washing.

We have seen this first hand in our industry, other contractors thinking they can do what we do at a cut rate price and it has completely destroyed the business in our area.

"Contractors helping contractors" is a great motto, until it directly affects your company and your family, you will think twice when it happens to you.

I agree with you on this Guy!

That kind of smug attitude with the arrogance is what makes others out there trying to make a living while dealing with the lowballers, hacks and lowbidders hate people like that. Instead of offering advice, help and their experience dealing with this while building their business, they take the other road and say how the hacks and lowballers do not hurt them.

People tend to forget that NOBODY isn't replaceable, ANYONE AND ANY COMPANY can be replaced at just about any time.

I have seen it happen in the Tree business, Landscaping, Plumbing, Electrical, Alarm business and sprinkler business. They cop the same attitude and sooner or later their glass houses start getting cracks in a "break-proof" friendship that helps keep them where they are living comfortable and then one day they are back out there with the rest of the commonfolk and dealing with what they bragged about a week earlier not having to deal with.

It can happen to anyone, any company or any group.

People generally do not like those people that have those attitudes, it might not be coming across like that but a lot of times it is.

This is what I have seen in my experience about people and companies with that arrogant attitude.

First you are doing great and then you start bragging and then when your confidence is at an all-time high and you are comfortable, one day one of your customers talks about getting bids because the upper management or accounting dept. wants it so they have to or the owner of the company has his wife bugging him about it or the sole proprietor is hearing this guy brag a little too much and is tired of it so he goes out and gets bids without the arrogant guy knowing about it.

The company owner actually finds a guy for less money that actually does a good job so the owner gives him more work and one day the arrogant guy finds out and goes and confronts the owner about this talking about how they have been friends for years, were in the same union, grew up in the same neighborhood (it is amazing how these words are becoming your words in your own head as you read them, you are also saying them to yourself as you read) in agreement, but the guy says that the economy is having a toll on his business and he has to cut back with some services and cleaning is one of the first to go a lot of times.

Now as you are reading this, you arrogant people are thinking that it can't or wont happen to me or my company but sure as you read this, it is happening all around the country, every day in every city to those who are arrogant. It is not really about being hungry or aggressive but about being the kind of person that people want to do business with.

I have seen it happen here to businesses here, even before the economy started to do it even more.

Those arrogant people, just keep on thinking how it can't or won't happpen to you, just keep on thinking like that because it is happening, you just have not seen it yet, probably until it is too late and too late to mend those fences that you thought you would not ever need again or were too good for. hahahahaa this is funny. hahahahaha

Great post Matt!

I agree, it is all nice until you have more competition but the worse kind, the kind of people that don't value their own services and cut prices thinking that is the only factor in doing business.
