Balau Wood question

Has anyone had any experience stripping and staining this type of wood. I have a small deck, only about 230 SF, that is all Balau wood. It current has a stain on it, however the customer can't remember what brand or type.

It need stripping and re staining.

Any advice would be helpful Thanks a million.

Walt, I have not seen this wood used for decks, so I am of little help. All I found out about it on Google was a similarity to teak, which we always used typical wood cleaners on. First step would be to determine if the existing stain is oil-based. Spritz some strong stripper on a section and see if the sealer melts. If it does, you are not going to have a hard time. If it doesn't, then you probably have a water-based product on this wood.

Balau is similar to IPE.
