SEO / SEM Search Engine Optimization & Search Engine Marketing

Looks like you are using Market Samurai. That is one heck of a program! I love it.

I hate to stand alone on this but I personally wouldn't recommend that tool.

I downloaded the trial awhile back and found much of the data to be inaccurate. I have many websites with google analytics installed for traffic data and have done many clients sites as well with analytic data installed all of which hold #1 positions for competitive search terms in competitive markets and have held the #1 spot for years and I have seen the market samurai data to be inaccurate.

for example it was mentioned above that "Pressure Washing Charleston" is getting 29 searches on average per day on google alone - which in an average calender month would yield 870 searches per month in google but if you compare that data to the google keyword tool itself you will find no data for the term "Pressure Washing Charleston" and if you check the wordtracker tool you will also find no data. Same goes for the term "Mobile Al, Pressure Washing" - which was mentioned to have 62 searches daily. Also return no results in both the google keyword tool and the wordtracker tool. There is data for the term "pressure washing houston" however because there is enough data for that metro area, I am curious as to what market samurai says for search volume for that phrase?

Hands down, the most accurate keyword analysis possible is to create a google adwords cpc campaign and test it for a few months. Adding each keyword (exact match!) you want data for. Then bid high and have a good ad to be sure to appear for each keyword term (google will tell you your average ad position you should bid high enough to be #1-4 position so your ad is always on the first page every time someone searches that keyword term). Then after about a month look at your "impressions" per month (in other words how many times in that month was your ad shown to a real person typing in that exact phrase) and that is the most accurate data you can get for each individual keyword phrase. For example if you had 52 impressions for the keyword term "pressure washing myrtle beach" in a month of 30 days than divide 52/30 = 1.73 searches per day and keep in mind that this will go up and down depending on the busy and slow seasons for your industry. btw those aren't actual numbers for myrtle beach.

However this method does cost money and no one wants to spend money. If you don't want to spend the money I recommend using the google key word tool itself (because it is the source isn't it) but be sure to cross reference it with other keyword tools for accuracy, if several tools consistently give consistent results you can feel safe that it is accurate data.

I bet for most of you though the problem your going to run into is you are not in a large enough metro area to get accurate data. In that case you need to separate the key word phrase from the city and do a key word analysis on your phrases first to find out which is more searched for. But keep in mind different parts of the country use different verbage for things. Here in the west coast people many know our service by "pressure washing" whereas people on the east coast may call the same service "power washing" so be sure to compare your results with nearby large cities that have enough data to give keyword data results.

For example which is more searched for: pressure washing or power washing? Find that out first then add that term to your largest population city you service if mobile al is the largest you service and power washing is more searched for than pressure washing in your area then go for:
power washing mobile
and then go for the variations
mobile al power washing
power washing mobile al
power washing mobile alabama, etc.

I may not agree with market samuri but the advice that was given was right on

take it or leave it but that is my 2 cents
hope it helps you guys
good luck

Ok..

This is what Im gathering,

This was a keyword search on some you look to be targeting, and some you are not, I sorted them by the most searches, and this is what I found

"pressure Washing Charleston"
"Charleston Pressure Washing"
"Pressure Washing Charleston SC"
"Power Washing Charleston"
You are already Targeting "pressure Washing Charleston SC" According to your anchor text in your signature, But did you notice, the difference in results with the SC at the end, and without?

Judging by the keyword report "pressure Washing Charleston" would be pretty easy to rank for, I did pull up your current rank, and your competitors, that is coming...

Now you do have a great Link rich domain in charlestonpowerwash, unfortuently that search term isnt very popular, it is getting searched but not steady enough for a report to compile.

Also the other 2 cities mt Plessant, and Summerville are not getting much traction either, but again they are being searched.

Here is where you rank for the Top 4 I picked up..

Your best ranking right now is for "Pressure Washing Charleston SC" you are ranked 10 for that, (bottom of the first page) But you are not in the top 500 for Yahoo or Bing... Again another missed opportunity, for quality traffic. The good news is "pressure washing Charleston SC" is getting 16 Searchers Per Day! and the SeoTcr is only 5% so getting to that top spot will not be so hard.

Here is your competition for "pressure washing charleston SC"

All but one have horrible on site SEO, you could easily be #1 for this keyword.

Next one and Second best Ranked for is "Power Washing Charleston" You are ranked 17 in google (Bottom of second Page ) and 4th for Yahoo, and 4th for Bing Nice JOB! However their are only 11 searches for that a day on google, and the competition again isnt that strong if you wanted you could rank very quickly

Here is your competition for "power Washing Charleston "

Again very easy to rank for, there is no on site SEO for any of them, and the number 2 spot is a Yahoo local listing, Easy to beat

Now for the MONEY KEYWORDS:

First one is "Pressure Washing Charleston" this one is getting 29 searches on average per day on google alone, Your current rank for this is 22 on google ( Top of the 3rd page) and 4th on yahoo, and 4th on bing. The good thing about this keyword, is that you could possibly dominate, Local maps, and organic listings, and wreck havoc on that keyword, and its combination.

Here is your Competition on " Pressure Washing Charleston"

again on this one there isnt a whole lot of competition, only 2 have on page seo done, and NONE of them have any amount of back links to be worried about, Also looking at the Maps listing, with a little hard work, and effort, you can be number one on maps, within a few months.

Here is the Other Money Keyword :

"Charleston pressure washing" Just the reversed option, gets a up to 30 searches a day, but is a bit more competitive than the above keyword. if you can dominate for this keyword, and the above keyword, you will almost be guaranteed to be generated for viewers to select almost 60 times per day! and that's not counting yahoo, bing, and the other keywords you do rank for.

Here is the competition for "Charleston Pressure Washing "

Now with this keyword, their are 3 people with correct on site seo, and link rich domain, this one will take a little time, but is definitely possible.

My Suggestion to you:

Would be to Change your title tags, to both Charleston Pressure washing, and Pressure Washing Charleston, separated by what section or page your on, like described in the last post.

Also Utilize your H1 tags on your pages seems like you have multiple keywords in one tag, DONT DO THAT!, target 1 in an h1 tag, and the other somewhere in an H2 tag, and rotate witch one will be the h1, and h2 in different pages.

Also META - update your meta tags, to the top 4 keywords, then add the honorable mentions, and stuff you have already been trying for. You meta description is a mess, you spamming your keywords instead of describing your business, in a keyword rich appealing paragraph.

Also use the same, meta tags, verbatim, per page, as well ad description, while meta tags dont play as an important role in google, its still a viable way to rank for target keywords.

Another note, I was unable to find a google places on you? Do you have one? if not lets get one up asap, with google places its always better to do it right the first time, then to mess up, and change it, and have to wait for google to re establish your place on the wheel.

Overall your in good shape when it comes to Links you are showing 115, but never stop building links, some take a while to report, but as long as you are showing a continued effort, you will be rewarded greatly in search engines, But again, look for Link diversity rather than having them all concentrated, while this is not hurting you, it not playing a huge role either.

With link building, choose the top 2 key words, your selecting, and use that as your anchor text

Questions?

Ill have more up about building a proper maps campaign, and link building tomorrow, or so. or give me a call tomorrow,

EDIT: Forgot to mention, YOU NEED MORE CONTENT the more relevant content the better, write an article, and post it on your site, find a low quality Ezine article about pressure washing, re word it to fit your keywords, and increase it quality and put it on your page. Utilize your Alternate text in pictures for the keywords, 1 keyword per photo, and separate your services into, say Commercial, Residential, Industrial, Roof cleaning, I know this seems tedious but having more content will give you, an extra leg in the rankings.

But I did want to congratulate you for establishing some deep links to other pages to your site, and not only the home page, a good rule is about 50-100 links per page minimum

Thanks for the help man. I really appreciate it. I bang my head with this stuff all the time. I constantly monitor my placement and it drives me nuts. I will be 10th then 7th 1st for a day back to 10th. I just cant figure it all out but I have been reading a lot about it and trying to implement it.

I made most of the changes that you have suggested.
I do have a google place but unfortunately my address is in Summerville SC. Was thinking about getting a po box in charleston just to add another listing for charleston. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated.:thumbup2:

To do the multiple google maps thing, it has to be done perfectly to avoid any penalties, I can explain more about this tomorrow.

Ryan, that is 100% correct, I always use Multiple tools, when searching for keywords, information and so on, but for this instance to compile a quick report MS is much faster, some tools with MS i dont use with the program, but others are wickedly great.

Me and you really need to talk, I am writing an ebook, about google maps, tips and tricks and so on, and could really use another author

Do you mind if I call you tomorrow, sometime ?

Myrtle Beach Pressure Washing

You got it.

So I'm gonna skip the things that things that PressureWashE and I have already talked about to avoid repetition (keyword research, title tag, etc) I do want to point out though specifically unique to you that you currently do not have a meta description tag and your website coding does not utilize any -h- tags for headers.

PressureWashE talked a bit about the meta description tag so follow his advice on that. As far as the h tags go ( h1,h2,h3 ), you can use these to tell google what's important in that paragraph of text below the -h- tag.

So you could have something like this
-h1-Myrtle Beach Pressure Washing-/h1-
-p-Pressure Washing Companies in Myrtle Beach are not all the same. Here at A Plus Pressure Washing we.............blah blah blah blah...............................Myrtle Beach, SC power washing ................................blah blah blah .................................... if you need drive way pressure washing in Myrtle Beach .................blah blah blah........... We also offer roof power washing for you Mrytle Beach, South Carolina home ........................more pressure washing keywords......................... blah blah blah ........................ Call us now for all your Myrtle Beach Power Washing needs!-/p-
-h2-Power Washing Myrtle Beach, South Carolina-/h2-
-p-same thing over as above with keyword rich content.....-/p-
-h3-North Mrytle Beach Pressure Washing Service-/h3-
-p-We also provide full service pressure washing in North Myrtle Beach.......blah blah blah........more keywords...... blah blah blah-/P-

Basically the only place I see your service area on your site is at the very bottom of the home page in little letters. This is the only place google sees your service area keywords as well. Definitely put your service location in your title, meta, h1, h2, h3, and body tags of your site. This will give you huge results the fastest.

Other things I saw, google has indexed your site but only has 4 indexed pages for it. Try to get that number up around 15 start building more pages with more content slowly and check your google results (I wouldn't build 15 pages of content this week) just do it 4 or 5 at a time and wait for the results if you don't see them a month or two later build some more. You mostly likely will not need too many indexed pages of quality keyword rich content because your market (myrtle beach area) most likely isn't too competitive. But you will need more than 4 and you can use these separate pages to focus on different keywords which I'll explain.

Here are a few ideas to get you started building content. It looks like you have several sub services (located at the bottom of your homepage, roof cleaning, house washing, etc) Build a separate page for each sub service you offer. You do not have a domain name that has your service keywords (pressure washing or power washing) in it or you location keywords (myrtle beach or SC or South Carolina) in it so I would name each individual page after the keywords of that service, and separate each keyword by a "-" so google knows they are separate words not one big long word. for example make a .html page for your roof cleaning service, name it roof-cleaning-myrtle-beach.html be sure to have your title, meta, h1, h2, h3 tags with keywords for that service (roof cleaning + your location(s)) and be sure to fill the body of your text with good keyword phrases about roof cleaning throughout the text like mentioned above.

Make one page for each subservice you offer. Put a link from your home page to that roof-cleaning-myrtle-beach.html page with an anchor text that also contains your keyword phrase you are targeting. Make sure the user has to click on a link that says Roof Cleaning Myrtle Beach (in text format not an image if you must use an image because you don't know how to change your coding on your site I recommend renaming the image which ill explain later) to get to that page about roof cleaning. You currently have the sections organized by a yellow image that contains the text roof cleaning in an image. If you can change that to a text link with a yellow background that says "Roof Cleaning Myrtle Beach" that would be best. Google can't read the text (roof cleaning) in that yellow image and will have a harder time finding out what that page is all about, and therefor will not know how to show that page in its search results. you should try go get some links from other websites with content about pressure washing pointed to each subpage you create and be sure to use keywords in the anchor text that match each subpage you've made

All of your current pages have the same exact title, you should change these titles to reflect the page itself while still keeping your keywords in the title. For example for your contact us page could have a title of "Contact us for Pressure Washing & Power Washing in Myrtle Beach, SC" this will keep your keywords there but appear to be unique from your other pages in your site.

The good news is you have a lot of links to your site with great keyword anchor text already done. Do you a have 301 redirect set up for your homepage? If not, you may not be getting credit for all the links your have. Let me know if you don't I can send you a file to upload to your web server that will correct that. Google may see yoursite.com and www.yoursite.com as two seperate sites and not count links going to each as one.

The other good news is you are already ranking fairly well for your area, (probably due to the links from this forum and others you are a part of). My search of pressure washing myrtle beach and myrtle beach pressure washing put you at #2 for both searches. And for variations of keyword that include SC you rank well. But for variations of power washing im getting you at about 5 or 6 and for variations that include South Carolina also at 5 or 6.

I would focus on the #1 spot for pressure washing myrtle beach and myrlte beach pressure washing first because you are so close. Then go for power washing myrtle beach and myrtle beach power washing next. Then go for the different variations of South Carolina like for example Power Washing Myrtle Beach South Carolina and Myrtle Beach South Carolina Pressure Washing.

Also I do not see any alt text for your images in your site code. use keywords you are targeting in your alt text. you can even rename your images themselves for keywords for example rather than header.jpg use power-washing.jpg.

You are far ahead of your competition already and are really close to dominating your market and I see no reason why you can't gain the #1 spot for ALL your search terms in your area, just get good keyword rich text links to your site and make sure your content on your site matches the keywords from those links.

Good Luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

exchanging links

Here is a good idea if you guys want to exchange links with each other that will help you kill two birds with one stone (exchanging links and building more content for your site).

In the past everyone has just created a .html page in their website designated for links. However recently google has discredited those links. I would suggest that you guys get together and create .html page in your site a name it pressure-washing-articles.html or something similar.

Then have whoever wants to trade links with you write an article about pressure washing (4-5 paragraphs) with the opportunity to include links both to his homepage and deep links to individual content pages within that article. Then you do the same for him.

This is much less spamy than a huge list of links on one page and will help build content for both of your sites and give each of you links to your homepage as well as deep links to your pages targeting other keyword phrases (like the roof cleaning example above)

Hey nice job, its normally not that quick. but I will tell you one thing, right now you are experiencing, the "Google Dance" they are giving you a chance at a 1'st page ranking to see how well you hold peoples attention, and to see what the bounce rate will be, if you succeed, you may be looking at a full time spot their, but if not, you will be moved back temporarily, now that you are their start building link with that anchor text back to your site, and deep linked pages. Ill post some links to get you started with your directory and link building submissions in a little while, Now is the time to capitalize on the increased rankings.

That's a great thread.
Thanks a lot Ryan and PressureWashE.
Feel free to check my website as well.

Here you go, I need to do a few things tonight for some customers here, But here is a quick rundown

Your site is doing well, for the most part, but can absolutely do better

By the looks at your site, you are targeting "Atlanta Pressure Washing & Atlanta Gutter Cleaning"

Nice job on picking the keywords. it looks like you did a little homework before finding something to rank for.

Here is the search Volume For some of the target keywords.

<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img825.imageshack.us/i/keywordsatlanta.jpg/'><img src='http://img825.imageshack.us/img825/4419/keywordsatlanta.jpg' border='0'/></a>

And here is the google tool, that confirms the above...

<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img821.imageshack.us/i/googlekeywords.jpg/'><img src='http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/8518/googlekeywords.jpg' border='0'/></a>

Now as you can see 2 of the keywords you are targeting at getting searched very often, and the the competition for the 2 you are targeting is relatively low, not easy, but low.

You can capitalize on this, Lets take a look at your rankings for the keywords you are targeting.

<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img801.imageshack.us/i/keywordrankingsatlanta.jpg/'><img src='http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/4493/keywordrankingsatlanta.jpg' border='0'/></a>

Now looking at the above, You are ranking well for a number of great keywords,

Atlanta Pressure Washing - You are ranked 6 for this, good job. the competition for this, is moderate, its not going to take a massive amount of work to get the top spot, but it will take some effort. Remeber there were over 75 Searches Daily for this keyword and that is Google alone!, Notice you are not in the top 500 for any of the keywords above, on Yahoo or Bing, this we need to fix, Coming soon, yahoo and bing are working on a merger, so soon, it will be very important to rank for thease engines.

Here is your competition for the above keyword:

<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img709.imageshack.us/i/atlantapressurewashing.jpg/'><img src='http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/7968/atlantapressurewashing.jpg' border='0'/></a>

Here you can see, that the top three have all optimized their pages for this keyword, (don't Mind Local Price) Look at the top 3's IC everyone has over 15 pages in the index, you only have 5, this needs to change, if you are going to be at the top spot, you need some more CONTENT, Ill will give you my suggestions at the end.

Atlanta Gutter Cleaning - Great keyword here, the competition is pretty solid and its searched over 45 times a day on Google alone, you are ranked 30, but this can change very quickly once the correct on site seo is done, and you build some anchor text links with this keyword, Ill explain more at the end. I think you can attain a top 10 spot on this keyword, but breaking the top 3 will be difficult

here is your competition for the above keyword:

<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img545.imageshack.us/i/atlantaguttercleaning.jpg/'><img src='http://img545.imageshack.us/img545/7633/atlantaguttercleaning.jpg' border='0'/></a>

As you can see, the top 4 companies all have the word gutter in their URL, and have good PR ratings, as well as plenty of back links, as well as Indexed Content, again your content is at 5, building some more content will help you in the search engines, and helped you get indexed for yahoo, and bing, the 1 spot and the 3 spot, look like very established companies, that serve a "niche" gutter cleaning. you can get there, if that is what you really want, if you want to clean gutters we can work on this.

Pressure Washing Atlanta - Another good keyword, you are ranked 6th for this, and it does receive a very good amount of searches, at over 65 per day, but again you are not on Yahoo, or Bing.

Here is the competition:

<a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://img809.imageshack.us/i/pressurewashingatlantac.jpg/'><img src='http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/2111/pressurewashingatlantac.jpg' border='0'/></a>

The competition on this, all have great domain age's and a good amount of indexed content, but only 2 have optimized on site seo for this, and the back link competition is low. But most of them have Keyword rich domains, and this can prove difficult.

My Suggestions -

I looks like at one point you were targeting Pressure Washing Atlanta judging by your rankings for this, I already see you are targeting Atlanta pressure washing, If you are serious about doing alot of gutter cleaning, we can get you ranked their with the following changes. Im goign to out line this in a step by step format, do with it as you want. Most of this has been repeated and is very basic, but I will include some advance tactics that should help.

Page Title's - You are missing out, becasue your current title reads atlanta pressure washing & gutter cleaning, Not many if none at all is searching that term. now yes Google will grab bits and pieces to make a searched term, but why not have the term already laid out?

On every Page, You need to do the Following
Home Page:
A Plus Power Cleaning | Atlanta Pressure Washing - Gutter Cleaning Atlanta

service pages:
A Plus Services | Atlanta Pressure Washing - Gutter Cleaning Atlanta

for every page separate it with A Plus (insert what this page is here) followed by | Atlanta Pressure Washing - Gutter Cleaning Atlanta

H1 & H2 Tags - Your home page has an H1 tag that reads Atlanta Pressure Washing, Nice job, but your other pages are being wasted with the word "services" in that place, and "Photos" Change those NOW! and use the primary keyword you want to target. in those spots, I would Recommend using Atlanta Pressure Washing,

Also on every page, create an H2 tag, with your secondary keyword on every page. like Gutter Cleaning Atlanta

Content - You need more of it, I know this is tedious, But if you want to do Gutter Cleaning, don't just offer it as a service, offer a page, dedicated to why you should clean your gutters, your experience, and different services related to this field. Add a section for Residential Pressure Washing, Commercial Pressure Washing, Roof Cleaning, Concrete Cleaning, Deck Cleaning & Staining, only of course if you offer thease services, Keep your services page, but also have subsections

You have alot going on in the home page, but nothing is really keeping me their, as ant stressed a while back, You need to sell benefits and facts, and not what you do and how you do it.

Also have you written any article, if not Write one, and throw it on your site, you dont need to have a link to it so people can read it, just put it on its own page, and google will index it and show it when relevant, and it will increase your IC (indexed content)

Meta Tags - No need for any changes here, just make sure your information on the first page is consistent through out, but change your order of meta keywords, to the first 2 being the 2 your mainly targeting, and then the others. While meta tags don't play as much for Google, it does play a role in yahoo and bing

Link Building - You have a good amount of link diversity, and some strong pr links as well, Nice Job, but you have ZERO links going to your other pages! get some links to the other pages, once you do i guarantee you will be picked up by yahoo, and Bing. At the end of this post I will post some directories, blogs and profiles that if your not listed yet, you need to do that. use your keyword as your anchor text and build some links. it is time consuming, but well worth the effort.

Note that not all links back to your site have to be relevant, while relevant links are great, having a high pr link back from say an education site, or technology site is still great link juice.

Overall you have a lot of things going for you. Google has already established a trust with you, and you have obtained a PR rating on your home page you also have a 4 year old domain, and that is some serious power, With some slight changes, and some more link building, you can rank well.

Once you have made some changes and added some content, Re submit your site to Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

Google -
http://www.google.com/addurl/

Yahoo -
https://login.yahoo.com/config/login...s%3Fei%3DUTF-8

Bing -
http://www.bing.com/docs/submit.aspx\

Stay tuned for some important sites to be on.

John

I agree!

Now on to the maps.....

I hate to burst your bubble here but it is very unlikely that the changes that you made could be having any effect on your google ranking yet. The good news is though is that the changes that you have just made will help you even more the next time google crawls your site and notices the changes!

Google crawls most websites our size (local service company sites) about once a month. And then after google crawls the sites and notices the changes it usually doesn't show up into their databases for a week or two later.

I looked up your site in the google cache and it was last crawled on sept 30 which was before this thread was started so google is still unaware of the changes you've made. To do this just search google for your domain name www.charlestonpowerwash.com then click on the cached link in the bottom right corner and you will see the current site that google has "on file" in their databases.

You will probably see google crawl your site again around the end of this month and see the effects mid-November. But keep in mind on-page SEO is probably only about 25% of your ranking and off-page SEO is around 75% so getting quality keyword rich text links to your website is the best thing you can do to improve your rankings in all the search engines.

Ryan

Okay bubble bursted......
I will take better rankings anyway I can get them.
Makes me wonder why my results change so much then if they are onlu updating once. A month.
I did change the anchor text on my forum signatures to the more searched keywords if that could have anything to do with it.

I ran another rank tracker on you with 2 different software's, and you have indeed moved up in the serps, Yes Google has not picked up on the onsite changes yet, but you have gained 57 links back to your site in the last few days, this can cause your site to move up in the serps.

Right now the Site is dancing, while Google finds a place for it.
