Night Work and Bad Things?

We are putting on a full time crew for night work. I know I personally feel more comfortable working with someone else at night, but in 6 years never had a incident with anyone messing with me / us while working. What are your thoughts on a one man versus two man crew for night work? Any real bad experiences with getting jumped/robbed/something bad happening while working alone at night? Or am I over thinking the dangers of working alone at night?

Jeff we have rules, all my people work alone. How ever we have times of night for certain areas and if they require to be done we send two guys for safety. 99% of the time we work with one man crews.

Have I had guys shot stabbed and robbed? Yes 26 years its all happened, altercations are not a regular occurrence but I'm sure they happen. funny the worst one happen with three techs onsite, they all didn't avoid trouble because they thought because they had number they would stand up. Till the guy started firing at them. true story happened at central and baseline grocery store. They dropped and fell behind poles luckily no one was hit. Gang bangers looking for targets.

Procedures of keeping them safe and not putting themselves at danger. My guys are instructed to avoid and call police immediately. We are also in out contracts agent of private property, this means if we ask someone to leave and they do not they are trespassing and our clients will prosecute.

Make a Safety Clause because you work at night. Customer understand it and they often are happy because they do not want them there. So actually your doing them another favor, security while your onsite.

Thats a Tech 9 years and his personal experiences.

We have always gone out with at least 2 guys, like ron said we have seen it all !! Most are just vagrance and bums looking for a hand out. We were in the middle of a few armed robberies at Walgreens over the years. Many drunks with beer muscles wanting to mix it up with us because we wet their car or they got a drip of water on them walking under a canopy we were cleaning.

The best deturant is having a good dog with you, I never had anyone approach us when Duke was in the bed of my truck. But we couldnt take him all the time because there were alot of locations that we serviced that were open 24hr's and people were scared of the dog as well and complained to store managers. Common sense and having a watchfull eye on your surrondings is key, having a 357 mag helps alot as well. We had a guy drive up and run over our water feed line and go into the store, when one of my guys confronted him he came out got a knife out of his car and cut the line in half. There are so many stories of night work, some funny and some down right scary. One time we had a guy trying to abduct a girl outside on the phone at a walgreens and my employee gave chase until the guy pulled out a gun and pointed it at him.

Know one can say that it's ever boring, each night always brings on another adventure, keep your eyes wide open for scumbags and just be ready to defend yourself if you have too. Oh yeah and always have a 5 gal empty spackel bucket and a roll of toilet paper handy.....after all were not animals !!!

Two guys bare minimum for night work. My worry isn't for security from outsiders it is not having a watchful eye and helping hand. If you get injured (deep cut, broken leg, etc.) while working during the daytime, there are usually people around to call 911 or get you some help quickly. This isnt the same if you work at night, if you get hurt and can't get to cell phone to call someone what are going to do? You always have to think safety before cost, and if your smart you have that added personnel in your cost anyways, so its not like you are losing money. How much is an extra man in comparison to an insurance claim?

I always carry when I'm out at night. do you think its better to conceal carry or open carry. I have thoughts on both, if you open carry they may think twice but on the other hand they may think of it as a challenge. Maybe a surprise barrel to the face may have a better effect??

Oh gosh, we have worked at night a few times, but not very often. Although I just bought a new generator to run lights for some night time work, I don't know if that would deter anyone from trying to cause us harm.

Sometimes 1 man crew sometimes 2 man crew. Either way my Hk P30 stays on my hip and glock in the truck. I have my carry permit and always conceal carry. I look at it like this...If Im a robber and see a guy armed, Im gonna take him out first since I KNOW hes a threat so I always conceal carry and stay alert.

I could carry Leroy with me sometimes though

Never open Carry---Reason--Drug addicts don't care---Worse case scenario they'll look to clock u over the head just to take your gone....Also suicide solution--- Your there ticket. These are worse case scenario. Add that to the psycho who is out looking for a lawsuit or just have you arrested. All they have to do is call the PD and say there is a man with a gun @ so and so and he just pointed it at me. Cops show up... u have a gun.... the very least reports are taken. I am very supportive of carrying a concealed weapon. Its there for you need and not to threatened anyone. Just giving you the honest answer because there are many "Smart" psycho's out there and your just giving them a reason.

As always if you have to draw your firearm then always be ready to use it cause some of these punks will walk right at you anyway.

Two guys for sure, a dog is great just to keep the rif raf away, carry your gun out and. I only have a couple stories in all the years, the only trouble I had was a lot sweeper pulling a knife cause he wanted us to move!

I only have a second guy on parking garages. I don't carry, though I will admit I have thought about it. I have only had one guy threaten my life. He did that via an employee. I made sure that I appeared at that location the next night. Somehow, he got the impression that I would tear him apart. That he was 6'4" and 150 probably did a lot to make him wonder about me.
If I want to, I can intimidate just about anyone. I have been shot at more, and had more guns pulled on me when I used to deliver milk. That happened multiple times, in five years. Nothing like explaining how your truck got strafed by automatic weapons fire when you get back to the yard.

Working on commercial roofs our problem used to be the cops surrounding us thinking we were stealing copper. Now they all know us and sometimes just stop to chat with us about who they beat up or killed that day..... (Couldn't resist John...:)

DING DING DING.......give that man a cookie! No way is my meal ticket going out alone at night, when a ladder will come into play, when the unit is going to be out of sight.

There are threads about carrying - many do, as many just consider a zero degree tip with 195 degree water to be a sufficient weapon :)

We all got our stories doing Night work alone. Even have stories with 3 guys(Us) and 2 psycho's(Them or maybe us:shocked: ). Also had a guy in my enclose trailer one time and another time a guy was in my box truck.

There is one time a guy scared the bejeezes out of me when I was doing a Best Buy store in a real stitz town. While walking backwards with the surface machine(I stopped doing that at night) a guy comes out of no where and taps me on the shoulder. It was around 4am. He starts screaming in a foreign language like he was freeking on something. Trying to calm the guy down and went off running. Made me think somebody was out there chasing him and where are they because he left like he saw a ghost.

Nights are tough work and there not for the screemish....and there lonely. Funny what $$$$ can make you do....
