White scum

Checked out an old brownstone today, the customer wants the house washed
When I went for the estimate I seen the brick has patches of what looks like
White Scum maybe leaking from the brick or it might be coming from the lime stone. The brick is very smooth to the touch and is about 100 yes old. I explained I he'd to get back to him because I thought a washing was not going to remove stains. So I was thinking along the lines of One Restore but I have never used it

I understand it needs to be applied full strength the house is pretty high and I guess I would have to climb a ladder with a pump up sprayer

Can someone give the run down or a better plan of attack please

Charles take some pic's and send them to Mike at eaco chem, he will help you determine what to use. Try to get some close ups and as well as a few feet away and then one of the whole wall if you can. You may need to try a couple different of their products. Could be One Restore will work, but they also have White Scum Remover, NMD 80, and others. They have a test kit you can get that will help you determine what to use.

I would make sure the customer A) wants the stains removed and B) is willing to pay for it.

My advice would be to look for something else to wash.

Pictures would help you get more response on this one.

these are the pics i took, you can notice that the white scum is spread out in different areas of the house, mostlty by the windows where the limestone is(painted green)

also there was some vine residue left on the brick, some one must have either power washed it off in the past or scraped them off with some tool and a chemical
looks as though ivory must have been all over the house at one time.

The home owner is a new owner of the house and does not know the history of the home.

Hey Doug

i did send the pics mid afternoon Friday but they were gone for the weekend already
i'm assuming there off tomorrow and will speak to some one Tuesady.
I'm not sure what the chemical will cost and i'm not sure how much time it will take to make it right

I told the customer that it's going to be a trial and error process and he knows from our conversation
it's not an easy fix his quote to me was i'd rather do it right

any ideas of how long it will take and what i should charge i would love to hear it
also i'm not sure how im going to apply the chemical if it can't be down streamed, i dont have a roof pump

Sounds like you got a good customer. You'll have to apply with a pump up sprayer and agitate the product in with a bristled brush. If possible and you can reach the stains from the ground w a pole srubber, have someone agitate as you spray, that's save you a lot of time. Most of Eaco Chems products for these type stains are wet on wet applications. You'll apply, scrub, wait 5 minutes, appy again scrub, wait 5 minutes then pressure wash off. When pressure wash off you will use low pressure and spray downward so as not to force the stain (salt, minerals, etc) back into the surface.

Charles, call me sometime if you want and I will discuss w you how I charge for the testing process and actual stain removal once I know what is going to work.

I thought this thread was on a different topic :)
