Best Form of Advertising?

Good morning everyone. This is kind of a spin-off thread from the post card one on this page.

I would like everyones opinion on what you feel is the best form of advertising for someone just starting out and wanting to build up their clientale list. What has worked for you? What was a waste of money?

I would like suggestions that will not break the bank initially.

To me, the post card and EDDM seems like a great idea and it seems to have worked for most of you that have done it.

What about YellowPage advertising?

Can someone reccomend a online print company that you have worked with in the past?

Thanks for all the information.

I personally don't think anyone looks in the Yellow Pages anymore. Most clients lean towards looking on line. I stopped paying for advertising about 3 years ago. I still drop off a few flyers when we are in a neighborhood working but those I make and print at home.

Everyone of my jobs the last few months have come through in order 1) internet 2) referrals 3) repeats 4) post cards 5) truck/trailer signage

1, 2, 3, 5.....same order

I haven't done post cards ever and stopped hanging door hangers 2 years ago. Spend your efforts and $$ getting ranked IMHO.

* Ranking #1 gets 42.1 % of clicks

* Ranking #2 gets 11.9 % of clicks

* Ranking #3 gets 8.5 % of clicks

* Ranking #4 gets 6.1 % of clicks

* Ranking #5 gets 4.9 % of clicks

* Ranking #6 gets 4.1 % of clicks

* Ranking #7 gets 3.4 % of clicks

* Ranking #8 gets 3.0 % of clicks

* Ranking #9 gets 2.8 % of clicks

* Ranking #10 gets 3.0 % of clicks

How do we do that? Do you pay someone to help you? Please help!!

By far you get the best ROI from a web site.

I know people that make 10s of thousands of dollars on one contract because someone found their site on the web. Sometimes it can take a few weeks to hit the front page and other times it takes months.

Two factors go into this basically, the on page SEO and the off page link strategy.

If you are using flash on your site, it may look pretty but the SEO value sucks. Ever wonder why the ugly sites rank at the top? Because their on page is great and they have a lot of backlinks. Don't just get one type of back link either. Signature is great here but those have been devalued with the last updates and it is only coming from one domain. You need a variety of domains.

maybe the attached image will help.

I don't understand. Are you saying that a website with flash sucks?? Or are you saying websites with flash cant rank well? That make no since to me at all. What does flash and having backlinks have to do with each other. That is like saying a car with a pretty paint job can't go fast. Can you please explain?

I guess that really depends on who you ask.

Times have changed though and Flash is no longer much of an issue when it comes to the search engines being able to properly index it. Google can and does pretty well with Flash these days as long as you provide an html version you will be okay. :thumbup2:
Crawlers read text, flash is not text; therefore flash sucks for seo

How many pressure washers do you know that know how to do that? And for the record Yea flash sucks. What is it, the ipad that will not load flash? It is an old technology that uses too much bandwidth and space. There are better ways to do it.

Brad, none of these types of advertising are any good without a solid base for your Marketing....This begins & ends with your website. Any marketing campaign should be built around driving customers to your website. A website "Validates" (In A Way) your company. Say a customer gets one of your fliers, door hangers, or whatever. They want more info on your company, so where do they get it?........WEBSITE!

This also sets you apart from the "Jacklegs" that are out there, you market that part too.

I think it is necessary to advertise your stuff to make it popular, it does not matter what way or what method you are adopting. I used Every door direct mail for my stuff and it really worked well.

A read a recnt survey that said Americans turned to the internet 70% of the time when making a service purchase. What that means is that (1) they call when they need it (2) if you arent visible on the net when they need it they arent going to call you!

SEO and pay per clicks done right is by far the most advantegeous advertising their is. I am currently in the shopping market for an SEO guy Id greatly appreciate any information anyone on this board might have to point me in the direction of someone they know and trust.

MY BIGGEST MISTAKE was not having my website designed to be SEO friendly from the begining dont go with the cheapest ! Have and only look into website designers who use wordpress and SEO friendly tactics to start. Back Linking and text writers are something SEO friendly site builders use.

What good is it to have a website thats pretty if NO ONE IS SEEING IT?
