The State - Congratulations Virginia

HB1160 “Prevents any agency, political subdivision, employee, or member of the military of Virginia from assisting an agency of the armed forces of the United States in the conduct of the investigation, prosecution, or detention of a United States citizen in violation of the United States Constitution, Constitution of Virginia, or any Virginia law or regulation.”

Passed into law

RICHMOND, Va. – On Wednesday, the Virginia legislature overwhelmingly passed a law that forbids state agencies from cooperating with any federal attempt to exercise the indefinite detention without due process provisions written into sections 1021 and 1022 of the National Defense Authorization Act.

I wonder how many people think Abraham Lincoln was so concerned about slavery that he started the civil war to end it?

That's the kind of misinformation our kids are fed in school.

Abraham Lincoln was one of the worst presidents this country has ever seen. Slavery was on it's way out eventually anyway just like it went out in virtually every other country in the world. Lincoln was conserned with "preserving the union".

Imagine this: You are a member of the, say, P@NA. Sure, you made an agreement to abide by their rules of ethics when you joined. But all the sudden they start making rules and lobbying for things you completely disagree with. So you send in your resignation and ask to be removed as a member. The response from the P@NA is to come to your home with cops and guns drawn telling you that you CANNOT resign because you had an agreement when you joined. You try to fight back but they kill most of your household, take most of your belongings and leave when you are disarmed finally allowing you to bury your dead and live in squalor while you try to eke out a living from what is left.

That is what Abraham Lincoln did when multiple states tried to band together and separate from this "union". I'm sure any of the scumbags other than Ron Paul who are running for president will do the exact same thing in hopes that in the future our grandchildren will be convinced that they, too, were just as great as that lunatic Abraham Lincoln.

But, I degress.

Good luck Virginia. It didn't work last time. Hopefully it will work this time.

Gee Tony, do you think that your opinion might be a little biased since you came from the South? and that maybe it could have been influenced by what you were taught in school?

Slavery was not the issue of the Civil war. You are correct, but Lincoln did not engage in the Civil War, until the South fired the shots at Fort Sumter. The South instigated the war. Lincoln just responded. You are correct however, he was all about preserving the union.

I didn't learn this in school,

Scott, My mother was a Lincoln fanatic so our house was filled with books about Lincoln. It wasn't till I was 12 or so when I started realizing that something was amiss here.

The south ordered the occupants of Fort Sumpter to leave. (much like one would ask the cops to leave if they were in your yard demanding you remain a PW@a member) When they didn't leave the South fired on them and forced them to retreat back to their own territory. No one was killed in that battle by the way.

I'm sorry to offend my southern brothers, but I don't have any allegiance to any region of the country other the the region God has placed me in and caused me to prosper.

I also have an allegiance with the truth. And our schools have taught us the opposite.

It's named "The War of Northern Aggression" for a reason, Scott.
Don't try to rewrite history just because it's the internet.

Finally a thread I know something about. Tony I'm suprised at your knowledge.

I've been slow to hop on any bandwagon since I was ten years old and realized what they were teaching us in school was completely wrong. Southern children are taught that their ancestors are villains when that couldn't be further from the truth.

I'm memory is rusty on the facts but a few things that always amazed me were...

Lincoln freeing the slaves in the south that he had no control over. While not freeing those in the northern border states.
Race riots in northern cities during the war.
80% of southerners had nothing to do with slavery. Only 4% of southerners were considered planters.

I also beleive that the South Carolinians didn't fire on Sumnter until after Lincoln asked for 75000 southern volunteers to put down the rebellion. I'm pretty sure my state didn't secede until after that. Its kind of like a stranger coming to your house and trying to talk your brother into kicking your a##.

Bottom line Like everything else it was all about money and politics.

Chris, tell them which political party ran the KKK.

OOPS, They offered a little different kind of hope and change back in those days, more like ROPE and CHAINS.

I don't care so much about where Cain's wife came from. And I don't need to know if a tree makes a noise falling if there's no one around. But I'd like to solve this mystery before I die ....... How can any self respecting black man or woman cast their vote for a Democrat after everything they've done to keep them from prospering. Sorry, went off on a tangent.

I love it. It's funny I moved from Chicago to Orlando during 6th grade and it's funny how the lessons in the books were similar but the teachers sidebars were different. Now you realize it was all crap. I now watch THE MATRIX with a whole new respect. Once you take the pill and open your eyes you can never go back to ignorance is bliss.

Out of the matrix since '84. Remember when it started, friend of my parents knew a lot of crazy details about that KAL flight 007 that Russia shot down. Then I remember him talking about Americas not a democracy which sounded so wrong. The rest is history.

The true history of which the civil war is a part is so deep and sinister it's mind blowing. We're all slaves since the civil war, by the way. Capital or lower case can make a world of difference.

Tu es mui loco!

That thought Tony use to cross my mind all the time especially when Bill Clinton ran for president. The Dems use to be big supporters of slavery and as in life timing is everything. Lincoln who was a republican gets in office at the tine when history was at the brink of being made in this country and like Lincoln or not his timing was right on as was Bill Clinton.

Most liberal lawyers for example here in NY are Democratic. The Al Sharptons of the world are Democrats. The only thing I could ever conclude with all this is people change as does party lines. That also makes you think that most people sadly don't care about history so as in party lines they can flip flop.

As for the KKK they were huge here in the North as late as the 20's and the 30's if not even longer. They were big supporters of political figures and certain type jobs here. Alot of people think the KKK was mostly in the south and they donated $$$$ only to southern causes when in fact they were big donators here and in areas people would be surprised to know.

I wish I cared about history when I was younger. It use to bore me to tears to the point that even when I was in the Navy I was clueless as to why we went to certain places because I just didn't care to know.. History needs to be remembered correctly instead of it being passed off today as to was is politically correct or not.

Interesting topic.

It's never too late to start John, I like to pick out a topic and dig into it till I've squeezed all the info I can out of it. It's always good to read opposing opinions too. You can't get the full story without reading both.

Mitt Romney will make everything great again. heck he's quite a man of conviction
Better choice then the guy in office who isn't sure if he's black or white,if he loves the country or hates it,if he really quit smoking or is he in denial--another words he can't make a right decision or any decision for that matter. 3 yrs of total experience before he came in should tell it all... He's lost in space.. Shizz Jeff you could beat this illegal citizen president with your eyes closed.. He's on the way to the unemployment line like the 11.1% that really are but wait.....that's right.. Obama doesn't count people who now no longer qualify for unemployment benefits because they ran out and there also not working....This is called BARRACK HUSSEIN OBAMA Care... He's out. Time to pull his green card..lol. Don't let the door hit him on the way out...

And quite handsome as a charicature (sp?) In a political cartoon too. Lol.

He's just another in a line of compromisers with no sense of commitment. We need Obama again to reach rock bottom so a generation of real leaders and reformers will emerge.

I know a lot of people have opinions on Mitt Romney, but keep in mind that he has a history of being thrown in difficult situations and being successful. Besides all of the corporate rescues he has done, and knowing when to cut his losses, he rescued the Salt Lake Olympics, taking those games from the brink of disaster, and on the edge of being pulled and given to another city, to being proclaimed some of the best run games ever. He knows how to rescue a company, or an organization that is on the brink of disaster.
I have seen enough negative comments about him, and his commitment that it is really getting kind of funny. The latest and greatest thing that I have heard that would make him an ineffective leader is because he doesn't drink. Really? That is really the best they can come up with?
I really think what bothers people about him is that they are afraid because he is a Mormon, and think that he will owe more allegiance to Salt Lake then the US, which is just false speculation, and is part of the same criticism that John Kennedy had with Catholicism. There have been plenty of successful Mormon's in politics, from every political party. It really should be a non issue. Indicative of how scared the Pol's and newspaper hacks are of Mitt are some of the critiques of him that border on the insane. Too Rich, Really? Never heard that about John Kerry, Richard Nixon, George Bush, or John Kennedy, and then, wouldn't you rather that someone that was a self made millionaire run the country, or would you rather have the proprietor of Frankies Shoe Shop run it? It is obvious to me that a community organizer isn't capable of running the country.
He is too religious? Really, I prefer that the most powerful man in the country feel that he is accountable to a Higher Power, and I don't care what religion he belongs to, EVEN MUSLIM, if he lives his religion, I consider that a plus, because I know that in times of trouble, he will know how to meditate, and pray for a proper resolution.
I won't touch Mormon, because honestly, I cannot give an unbiased opinion on that. I will tell you though that in the Mormon culture we are raised up and given leadership opportunities starting at the age of 12, on. We are asked and expected to do public speaking from a very young age, as young as 4 or 5. (really even from the age of 3) If for no other reason, it makes people comfortable speaking in front of a large group. There are other things that happen that I won't bore you with the details on, but as a Mormon, I know that if nothing else, he has definite leadership skills and knows how to put the correct people in jobs where they can be the most effective.
Some people criticize him because of the Massachusetts Health Care, give him credit, he hasn't backed away from the responsibility of a failed plan. Keep in mind though, something that is constitutional for a state to do, may not be constitutional for the Federal Government. Keep in mind that he was a republican governor working with a very liberal state house. That can have an effect on what is, or is not, passed.

I really cannot understand how anyone can think that Obama is a better choice for President, especially as he has walked all over the constitution and congress doing his crazy Executive Orders, that he pulls out every time the checks and balances declared in the constitution do not work in his favor.

BTW Tony, the word is caricature
