Getting New Business Off to Right Start

Would anyone like to share ideas to get off to a good start, make money and help set proper image of company and industry. Some seem to view as exterior "maids" or modern Janitors. both are fine jobs, but not exactly correct image for Power Washing. I feel any one considering an industry must also consider his/her impact on that industry. It works both directions. Image of industry effects attitude toward, and profitability of my business. As does my image effect attitude toward and profitability of the industry.

What did you do that was a good move, and looking back, what might you do if to start again?

Marv,

Its really simple, any successful business you can model after. I mean what are your aspirations? What do you look for when hiring a company to anything for you?

Idea wise I really can’t say much, I think there are some fundamentals that are obvious but if your looking for some secret weapon I think you will be disappointed.

Hard work and consistency with whatever path you decide to take. There are many ways you can model your business.

1. always be fair to your customers
2. keep competitive pricing
3. Always present yourself and employees with a neat clean image.
4. Be professional even when your going to loose it.
5. When problems rise work through them it will get better.
6. Keep your cleaning standards above the competition.

Marketing

1. repetition
2. consistency
3. always follow up
4. Do what you say your gong too.
5. Try to do something in the way of building your business everyday.

Marketing has to be done everyday and be more consistent than anything.

A professional marketing plan and I mean plan is often the difference between a successful pw and a guy that is struggling. All other things need to be in order but without marketing plan all the professionalism and great cleaning doesn’t always get you jobs. Some will argue this word of mouth thing and I think its great. My word of mouth business won’t pay my bills. Does that mean I don’t do good work? No it means that if I had to wait for someone else to recommend me I would not be as successful. I love word of mouth advertising just don’t let it be your foundation.

Thank you Ron,
I tried this post on another BB and it got several views but no replies. So I thought I would try it here.
I have been reading many post about the 'future' of this industry, and many concerns and complaints. I have been putting a great deal of thought to the topic of this post, and was hoping to hear a different form of processing all of those concerns.
