Our company doesn't haul waste off site........ We use too, and use to dump at a local facility where pump trucks go. such a waste of time and $$$. When we started we used equipment that needed to be cleaned and maintained ALL the time so in order to properly do that we did our filter and barrel cleaning at these dump sites, where they safely disposed the waste.
in years since we got our system down to where we eliminated stage filtration as they were not affective for water reuse and maintenance. So now we treat our water with clay, which eliminates oil, dirt, metals, and any other fuel bi product except bacteria. When we clean our locations our waste water is recovered and treated on site. Since we use this on a full scale we test our water on all our trucks on a yearly basis. We don't recover anything out of our scope for this treatment
So we don't need permits we don't need special certificates, we don't discharge water into drains.... In some cases we can discharge into landscape but never into a drain system. Even though our water comes out close to pure it's a hassle to obtain permits. Areas that are MS4 territories require NO discharge into landscape or drains because all sources lead to water shed.
stage filteration system only taking the water down 10 micron or so which is still a little dirty and in most cases don't take metals out of the water. So operators should really be careful with landscape discharge. In all honesty those containment systems should be cleaned in a safe environment all together .
so many ask what do you do with the waste that comes from the water? Well we are able to throw it away either on site if customer doesn't mind or back at our facility there waste becomes landfill safe. As always we test that sludge as well to make sure it's leaching process is affective. Now one thing to remember gas station waste contains dirt soda coffee oil and some gas and of course gum.
