The INFAMOUS Exploding DE filter!!!!! NOT!

Here is Chris' trailer from the garage cleaning at the Las Vegas Event during the garage cleaning demo.

    It consists of the following:

Prefiltered in the Scirocco vac, then pumped into the separator. (Scirocco PEV1 - less than $2k)

    Then:

Chamber 1 is a sock made from the Gutter Critter Skin to catch larger debris. (about $15)

There is an open space at the bottom that leads into chamber 2.

The runoff percolates up through about 8 inches of course polypropylene pads (this catches hot grease and slows it down and cools for capture) (About $8)

Above that 8 inches is 8 inches of fine polypropylene to catch finer debris (About $8)

Above that is about 8 inches of aspen shavings (soaks up oil and other contaminants) (About $8)

Then the water spills over into the third chamber which has a gutter critter for the water to flow through to catch any further oil or heavy metals. (About $40)

The only thing left is some suspended solids.

A sump pump in the third chamber pumps out what is left and pushes it through the last part which is a DE filter. Yes, that infamous filter that Jim Gamble claims will explode if used on a trailer. I guess he thinks just because it has a pressure gauge on it, it is some kind of boiler. The pressure gauge only goes up to about 20 or 30 psi to let you know when the media needs to be re-distributed or changed........The garage doctor.......lol.) (Sump pump about $80 - DE Filter about $200 - DE about $5

That DE filter and the sump pump can run at 40 gpm.

It is running slowly in this video only because the three part separator had just filled up and was just getting started and there was no washing going on at the time.

Here it is. Crystal clear water clean enough for re-use.- Although it still needs to be mixed with fresh water- It will stink after a few times through and that can only be fixed with chlorine injection.

While this is an inexpensive alternative media wise - remember, it still requires a lot more fuel, doubles the emissions, and takes a lot of time and effort to keep maintained and cleaned.

Keep this all in mind. This isn't for every job, just the ones where filtration like this is a must. Chris uses it for grease spills at dumpsters more than anything.

    It works.

Now I have made it easy for you P*werwash.com. You don't even have to buy one.

All's I've got say is you're extremely lucky that it didn't blow up. And make sure that Chris avoids potholes when he's towing it. lol

It happens to pool cleaners all the time. They are an endangered species.

Tony It cant be that easy and affordable. I was under the impression you had to have a 80,000 dollar filtration trailer and ten million btu heater.

Tony how many Gallons can you run through your system before having to clean the filters or replacement? (Avg. Grime and oil garage)

    Who made the container?

Chris used it for 4 months before cleaning it all the way out. He does about one emergency grease dumpster spill call a week and a few one time dumpster cleanups a month that need it. I think he only did one parking garage that he used it on. The three part separator was pretty done after that with about 3 inches of hard grease in the bottom of the first and second chambers.

Most of the media was still OK but we replaced it anyway because it stank.

I think that filter box was from hydrotek. It is a pretty common setup. His is aluminum but it needs to be stainless.

He didn't have a pre-vac debris filter so he had to clean out the pev1 every night.

Are you asking about the three part, the DE filter or the media?

Course poly can be the synthetic evaporative filter pads or rolls. Fine poly is commonly sold as air filter media. Aspen pads are sold as pads or rolls for evap coolers. The sock for the first bin to catch the big stuff can be heavy duty landscaping media. The last bin is nothing but Fayths Gutter critter.
