PDA Curious

I'm in the market for a PDA (personal data assistant I think), but first have to justify the cost to my C.F.O.(chief financial officer the WIFE).
Ron M., in one of his threads recomended getting one to help w/ productivity. Gathering data/info while your on the road.
Now, being a male, I just naturally want the new toy everyone's got. DVD player, big screen TV, surround sound, you know where this is going. But my wife ask's me, "can't you just write it down as you go along?" You also know where that is going.
What are you guy's using? If you are using a PDA, what brand do you suggest?

I wrote an article a couple of years ago about PDA's for Cleaner Times.
They help you in a lot of ways.
1. It helps you keep phone numbers organized. THat way you have every phone number that you call in one spot, and most have a search feature.
2. If you have recurring accounts, you can schedule them out in perpetuity. That means with a couple of strokes, you can have an account repeat on a particular day for ever, or until you tell it to stop. This is also advantageous when you are scheduling irregular accounts and you can take a quick look at the PDA and tell if your regular account is already scheduled for hat day.
3. You can make notes to yourself about a particular account. Things to remember, and special conditions.
4. If you are doing mostly residential, you can use it as a tickle file that will remind you when to do those folloe up calls to sell the same customer again.
5. You can also track the things and discussions that happened during asales call, and have it at your finger tips, the next time you make a sales call to that person.
6. You can use it to track expenses, and have it immediately down load to your home PC
7. You can play games to relieve stress, or if you have few minutes down time.
8. You can use the memo function as a cut and paste to list out what you did on a particular job, and if there are special conditions that might require an upcharge, you can make a note that you discused it with someone, and who that someone was.

That is 8 quick reasons that you could use. I know that I am lost without my palm pilot.
However, the next PDA that I get will probably be the new Dell PDA that is about $200. It has a color screen and it uses Windows CE. Make sure that you spend $12 to get the screen protectors, and that you get a case for it. The screen protectors are really important, The case is not quite as important.

I've been using a HP Jornada Pocket PC for about a year and a half. There are not as many games or toy software titles as there are for the palms, but for business applications I think its great. With the memory available I keep customer spreadsheets and word documents that I need with me and actually let it update my outlook program between home and the office (no more pc anywhere or hauling floppies and cds back and forth). I got the 4 year protection plan for an additional $58 which covers all damage no questions asked at Best Buy. Hand em the broken one and they hand you a brand new one!!!

PDA,, Palm

I love my palms and all my guys have one. I use it as a tracking system so we don’t loose anyone.

To do list we use as a quick glance area. We can see the whole day and weeks ahead. Use this feature I owed one for about 6 months before I realized this was the way to store the info first instead of putting in on the calendars.

I use it for all things mentioned above but it mostly is used so we don’t let anyone slip thru our fingers.

Call me and I can give you more tips 6026942680

There are just as many games for the pocket PC as there are for the Palm. It is just a matter of knowing where to look.

I'm not big on electronic games so I don't look very hard. But on the occasion when I have seen an interesting game it appears to be for the Palm platform....
I'm happy I've got all my office programs on the Pocket PC and thats what its intended purpose was....work!
