Pushing $200K "ONE MAN CREW"

John,

Mike and Rusty are not connected in anyway. Mike taught himself and learned from other sources. Just do a search on this site and you'll find all Mikes posts. You have no reason to doubt him. Rusty and Mike are sharp dudes who say what they do and do what they say. Rusty lists all his graduates on his website, you won't find Mike in there at all. Mike has offered to show anyone how he cleans hoods at no cost other than expenses and time. Rusty charges for his school. They are similar in that both clean solo and both are making significant moolah.
Best, Jones

I also don't remember Mikey ever being involved with Rusty's school.I have to admit, being in a few other businesses than this in the past,I am a little jaded when people make income claims. For Mikey to leave his home at 8pm and be home by 1am (5 hours),and do a couple of jobs that total $1075 by himself seems a little tough to do,but possible if they were close, and he sold them at a good price.I remember being in the trucking business and making on average $10 per mile, and there is no way you are going to tell the average hillbilly trucker that you make $10.00per mile, when they can barely make $1.00 per mile and if they can find a gig paying $1.25 a mile they think they are rich.It is just the national industry freight average of what companies are willing to pay and the average long haul trucker is willing to accept.I had a private contract with a big grocery company in NJ and delivered groceries to inner city supermarkets, where I had to double park the tractor trailer in the street, and hand unload 50,000lbs of cases onto rollers coming out the side doors in NYC and the 5 Boroughs, and pick up checks and sometimes cash, sometimes $25,000 in cash in Brooklyn at night(by myself) from independent supermarkets that were on COD.I only averaged 50 or 60 miles per load, and they paid $500 to sometimes over $1000 per load.(we got paid 2% of the dollar amount on the truck, and they averaged $25,000 to over $50,000 of product on the truck per load).I made the mistake of trying to explain this to a pot bellied toothless redneck trucker one time when I was at a Mack dealer picking up some parts for for one of my trucks, and he told me "no way anyone can make $10.00 per mile!Another example is, Being in the demolition business,we had jobs where we knocked down average size single family homes and cleaned up the site, and trucked the demo, and charged $18,000,and were done in 2 days, and our costs were around $4000,and there are companies out there who would do that same job for $8000 ,and jump at the chance, and if you told them you could get $18,000 for that job they would not believe you. These two examples are true, and show how the industry average, and what people are willing to work for,are not always the same thing.I think all people are a little jaded when anyone makes income claims, since some people like to exagerate ,but don't always blow it off as BS,there are always exceptions.I am still involved in demolition.

OK, I Guess my title and subject to start this thread wasn’t the best way to start out. I was taken with the over with the excitement. I didn’t mean to start this thread, of believe it or not. Let me remind you that I have been a loner for a couple of years in this business and practiced 16 years in sales. My point is that before I got into this market, I researched countless hours to find a business that would be very profitable, and allow me to be independent from the man. I used every tool that I had available to construct this company, from all of you to what I have learned though books, tapes, etc. I’m sorry if some are offended, but Its my goal and you all have you own . I feel sometimes the responses taken seem to be directed towards posters and I don’t mean to offend anyone. I have no one around here to share my experiences with. I hope you understand that I like to decipher some not all responses. I have been doing a lot of thinking and research on expanding. I’m getting closer to making the leap. I have to say that there are many avenues to go. By the way john Z. I found an article in March 2005 Entrepreneur magazine page 68, fist article at the top right, that may be helpful.Safeclean, not every day is like that. My current monthly gross low $13,000 High $15,000. Some days higher than that, some days lower. I even have jobs that pay close to $2,000 that take less time than that.
Its not all a bed of roses, and I don’t want to paint a perfect picture either. mikey

Just for clarification. We didn't train Mikey.

But the numbers he are quoting are very attainable, although it requires a lot of work.

Don't be narrow in your assumptions of what someone else can do just because you can't do it.

I don't have employees, because:

I have to pick them up/drop them off (adding travel time).
I have to pay benefits (decreasing profit).
I have to pay them a wage (salary/hourly- decreasing profit)
I have to carry extra insurance (decreasing profit).
I have to f/u with the owners when the job wasn't done right (headache factor).
I have to hire/fire people (major headache factor).
I have to share my profit with someone who doesn't have a vested interest in my success.
I have to hear someone else talk while I'm cleaning/working. (I enjoy the silence)

I currently run a 92% profit just on the kitchen exhaust cleaning side of our company. That means for every $300 that I charge, I put $276 PROFIT in my pocket.

Most of our jobs are at least $325+ per cleaning every 3 to 6 months.

3 jobs a day $1000 income (approx. 9 hours worth of work + commute) x 200 days a year equals $200,000 profit per year.

There are 50 weeks x 5 days equals 250 days to clean (this leaves a window of 50 days for bad weather and other unforeseen reasons why you can't get your 3 in for the day). The 50 days that you didn't do 3 a day, you maybe got 1 or 2 in for the day.

On average 167 accounts will generate $100,000 profit per year. If mikey has around 333 accounts, then he could easily generate that kind of money.

I have countless people that we have trained (Mikey not being one of them) that are earning as much as they want to.

Some a lot, some a little, some just in the middle (sounds like a country lyric to me).

We've got several accounts that pay anywhere from $1000 to $4200 per cleaning.

You seem to not be able to separate reality (what Mikey is actually doing) from your perceived idea that it's impossible.

Way to go Mikey! Just be sure and plan a little R&R time in the equation so that you can live a long, happy life.

Thanks Rusty, I have counted my days off this month, (9) seems like weeks.Belive me I get plenty of rest/those 4-6 hour days just kill me! by the way this is a slow month $13,300. Mikey

I believe you. If you read my last post ,I was basically saying that what the average is in any industry is not always the norm, and many people cannot imagine themselves making a certain amount of money, and limit their incomes by what they perceive as possible,or what they are willing to accept for their services. But you better becareful,I am addicted to flyfishing, and just watched a tape that I bought on Ebay ,on the Wind river in Wyoming, and if you keep talking about "the gold in them their hills" (hoods) in Wyoming I just like RJ Travel might come there and give you some competition lol!
Jim

Come on out partner, I’ll show you all the hot spots in that canyon. + I can use the company. Also need Competition to make me look even better LOL. mikey

PS, Don’t forget to tie some extra flies for me

Micky,

The Tommy's on Beverly Blvd and Rampart is still there.

I think the food there is as good as it has always been.
