I am always looking for a better product to clean hood and vents. I was wondering what you guys have to offer? Right now I am useing a product called Kling n' Clean made by the Hadco Corperation. It is a sodium Hydroxide based and flows like water but sticks like a gell. I love that fact about. But Have any of you ever heard of this product? Do you sell it? I do like it but the cost gets to me I know there has to be something better out there. Plus if something can out preform it I am always willing to give it a try.

Hood and Vent Cleaner

Dominic,

We don't handle that particular product. However we do have several that are very good.
V-501 Vent-A-Hood Powder Degreaser

For Contract Cleaners who want a stronger and hotter Vent-A-Hood degreaser than V-500. A powdered caustic degreasor designed for cleaning vent-a-hoods, flues, filters, and kitchen equipment. Also good for all types of heavy degreasing and soot removal. A good concrete degreaser around cooking areas, ie. outside of restaurants, drive ways, and parking areas. Mix 1/2 pound to a gallon of water to get your liquid concentrate. The strength of the detergent should be varied according to the degree of carbon and grease being removed from (20 to 100) to one. Requires the use of a respirator.

See the MSDS at http://www.dcs1.com/msds/v-501.html

OD-100 Oriental Liquid Detergent

Oriental Resturant grease is more like a shellac that a grease, therefore it takes a product more like a paint stripper than a detergent to remove it. OD-100 is a super strong alkaline detergent used to removed Oriental grease, road film, oil film, carbon deposits, and other difficult substances. Also a good smoke house cleaner.

Use at any temperature, but the product is most effective at elevated temperatures, ie. 180 F and higher. Concentrations may vary from less than 1% to full strength depending upon the circumstances. Soak time will vary up to 15 minuted for difficult substances. Oriental Grease requires a pre-spray of 100% to (5 to 1) with a dwell time up to 15 minutes.

Use any solultion up to full strength on Stainless Steel, carbon steel, iron copper, brass, bronze, concrete, masonry surfaces, blacktop, glass, cermanics, plastic and rubber. A dilution of 1 to 60 or greater is recommended for aluminum, magnesium, and other soft metals, and painted surfaces.

See the MSDS at http://www.dcs1.com/msds/od-100.html.

How do you mix it?

Hello Larry,
I did receive the samples of V-501 an OD-100. I thank you very much for them and will give them a try soon. I was just wondering I looked though out the box and did not find any directions for mixing the chemical. Could you please let me know how much water to use, and what stregth I will need to mix it at. Also will I hae to mix any thing else to it to get it to be thick so it will stick to the hood? And what the average dwell time is? I thank you very much for your help. have a good Thanks Giving!!:D

Chemicals, Mixing & Use

Dominic,

Mix all powders 1/2 pound (8 oz.) per gallon of water to make a liquid concentrate.
Vent-A-Hoods--Non-Oriental Restaurants-- Washing:

Prespray with V-501 Liquid Concentrate cut 5 to 1 on heavy build ups, the wash with V-501 Liquid Concentrate cut 40 to 1. Caution: V-501 will etch Aluminum if contact time is too long.

Heavy Carbon Deposits prespray with OD-100 cut 10 to 1. Wash with V-501 cut 10 to 1.

Caution: V-501 and OD-100 will etch Aluminum if contact time is too long. They will also etch Galvanized Metal and can discolor Stainless Steel under prolonged exposure.

Vent-A-Hoods--Oriental Restaurants--Washings:

Prespray with OD-100 cut 10 to 1. Wash with V-501 cut 20 to 1.
In some extreme situations you may need to mix stronger.

Dwell time will depend on how thick the grease is but seldom longer than 15 minutes.

I'm not sure which thickening agents would be best to use.

I hope this helps you.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving
:)

I liked them both

I have used both the V-501 and the OD-100. They both worked very well on the stores I used them on. I must admitt I Do not have any Oriental resaurant accounts so I used the OD-100 on a Steak house. Work very nice. I will also say I am going to try a few more products before I make my mind on which one to go with. I will say I like the Delco products a lot and it will have to be something really special to beat them. I feel that Delco has a great product at a good price. Will let you know how the other products I try do. :)
