Recent example in a Portland suburb. Really dirty roof. Subdivision collector street.
Finished the job, looked great. Put a sign in the yard.
A week later the next door neighbor called and we cleaned her roof, put up another sign.
About a week later a lady from about six blocks away called and we cleaned the roof. Put up a sign but no cigars - dead end street.
Then a guy from about a mile away called off the first two signs. Could have cleaned his roof but opted not to because I didn't like him.
They work great but also routinely get swiped.
On residential I always ask...some HOA's have rules against yard signs so I never want to put my customer in an awkward situation with their HOA. I feel it's like if it's there property the least I can foo is ask for permission, out of respect. When i ask I also ask them to please leave it up for a week and then they can throw then in the trash. It's not often, I put them in front of homes, there has to be a certain set of circumstances for me to put one in front of a home.
I don't think I have ever gone back to retrieve a sign from a residential home.
