Best Motor

Just want to get everyone's opinion on what is the best motor to run? Vanguard,Honda or Kubota or yanmar Diesel. We run 10 hours plus at a time fleet washing and I have blown two GX 390 and a Vanguard 18 just looking for some reliability.

We have been running 24 hp honda's since we can remember and running for hours on end every night, never blew one up?

Honda is a great engine. you saying your blowing them ? What is your PM on them? (How often do you service ?)
How long did these last ?

I have two GX 390 one snapped a rod the other crack rocker arms. I was thinking of getting two Honda GX 690's

When an engine fails there is a reason, Do you know what made the rod snap ? a lack of oil can cause this. Or you may be over speeding them. or a combo of both. What kind Oil are you using you may not be getting a good lube if your using cheap oil or the wrong kind. Do you check your oil before your job? 10w 30 if its a overhead, If its not 30w would be good because they get hotter and need thicker oil.

All the Motors you listed are good. But if were not keeping up with them on a regular they will fail. I'm not saying your doing any of this, Just given you some common Info that i know and I've seen happen to people. Good luck.

What is the normal oil consumption on these motors, say weekly?

It's a well documented fact that excessive rpms will crack rocker arms in the Hondas.

I think that this is exacty why mine blew this past summer.

How many horsepower do you need? Russ is there an overhead cam engine?

I always run 30wt and change oil every 50 hrs

Same her Nick, How many hours you got on your machines changing every 50 hours?

Thats the first I herd of that from a Honda, but Russ would know so I believe his assessment on that. My other thought was that you were tasking it too hard beyond its rated horsepower.

I would say the Kubota diesels are tops I am not aware of any issues with them. I don't know however if they have changed with the new emmissions stuff, perhaps Russ could elaborate on that. I have also had some good luck with the Kawasaki engines as well but they were liquid cooled.

I just put another Honda 390X on the machine. I want to setup a cold water machine around 8GPM that's why I was thinking diesel or a twin liquid cooled
