Burner making hot water only, not warm.

Hello guys,
I was washing trucks Sunday and it seems like the burner is not making warm water, like 120 to 140 degrees, it is making it so hot you cannot hold the wand wearing leather gloves, it gets too hot in a couple seconds.

I recently replaced the thermostat and the pressure switch, and cleaned out the fuel bowl.

It seems if I have the thermostat at 120 or 140 it just gets hotter and hotter.

The thermostat is new so I am wondering why the water is getting so hot.

I am using the correct nozzles, actually a nozzle to lower the pressure some and the unloader is not bypassing.

This is the Hotsy 1295SS, 5.6gpm, 3000psi with the 12 Volt Beckett Burner, Vertical Coil, new fully charged battery.

From far away you can see the heat from the burner when the trigger is pulled and stops when you let go of the trigger.

Any ideas of what is going on?

Thanks.

Sounds like your flow switch is working properly due to heat over burner goes away when trigger is released. I would do away with the thermostat if it were me and go with a high limit switch. I have not had any luck with adjustable thermostat's. http://www.envirospec.com/ecatalog/BurnerAccessories.htm part number C160-44 is a 160 degree switch. I am running the same thing with c200-44 which is 200 degree switch. These things work great!

Seems like a faulty thermostat to me.

if the fire isn't going out, a control switch is not the problem..
the baffle-plate in the center of the coil could have burned through,

If the burner IS cycling off, just bypass the temp switch to prove it is the problem.

I need different temperatures for cleaning different surfaces. Truck degreasing I usually like to set the burner at 125 to 145 degrees where removing gum is at 180 to over 200 degrees so I need the different temperature capabilities.

The diagnostic tool is a good idea, wish I had one of those on all machines.

Different jobs and different temps. I have heard of just using a nozzle and a high limit switch but that just seems like $$$ running away on jobs that don't need the heat.

On the back of the 120v thermostats that I have there are three connections for two wires. You put the second wire on the wrong one and the burner stays on most of the time. I only stick it on the third one to test the thermostat to see if that's the problem when things arise. I have also had the thermostat come out of adjustment and need a turn or two to bring it back. There is a flat head screw if you pull the back cover off and turning it one way raises the temp, the other lowers it.

Check the wiring and if that's correct then play with the back screw and see if that helps.

Easy and free should only take 20 mins to figure out.

wish the quote button worked for me.... my burner has a switch so i can turn off the heat for them type jobs where its not needed. As far as diff temps are concerned it would be some work to be changing out hi limit switches every day unless you had some spade terminals for the wiring a bottle of thread paste with 2 diff high limit switches

My system is a 12 volt burner.

I might open up the control box again, when I first installed the new thermostat it would not work, I changed around the wires and it started working, I think that there were 3 terminals for the 2 wires, not sure if there are different thermostats for 12 or 120 volt systems and if this would make a difference.

I like the idea of a limit switch but I would need 2 of them, one for degreasing trucks and the other for removing gum. Maybe have a couple switches to switch between them for the different heat ranges for cleaning the different jobs?

Thanks Russ.

In the summer time, the water will never be that cool, even in the morning. hahahahaha

Guess I will just replace the thermostat when it gets here.

Thanks Russ.
