Burner Problems!

I was running a burner on one of my machines tonight, and noticed it was getting really really hot. I changed the thermostat on it, and swapped the 4.8GPM pump on it for a 8gpm. I touched the case real quick on the burner and it melted my glove. Could it have something to do with the thermostat? Maybe I got the 2 wires hooked up backwards that plug into the thermostat?
