Cat Pump What Oil And Where To Get It ?

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF OIL MY CAT PUMP TAKES ?
ITS A CAT PUMP MODEL (55) ,CAT PUMPS ARE A TRIPPLEX PUMP I THINK? PLEASE WRITE BACCK WITH ANY INFO. PLEASE.

I just use 30 weight non detergent oil. I buy it at Autozone for like $1.20 a quart. It has worked for fine for the past 3 years. I use full synthetic Mobile One oil though for my engines.

Cat specific oil is available from qualified service centres. It is a synthetic with many additives and carries their warranty for performance. Not having their oil in the crankcase will void their warranty. The oil costs ~$6 per quart/litre.

Scared yet? :)

You can use NON-detergent straight 30 weight oil with no problems. Always check the sight glass to ensure there is no water in the oil to make sure you do not see a butterscotch colour. If it is a direct-drive application you can use 80-90 gear lube for greater resistance to heat transfer.

In GENERAL, synthetic oils provide no benefit in pressure washer/small engine applications. Synthetic oils are more resistant to viscosity breakdown and heat and therefore allow for extended drain intervals. Unless you are going to sample your oil to ensure you get maximum benefit, I strongly recommend you use a high quality regular oil.

Do not get me wrong, I love synthetic oil for my diesel Jetta and with testing am changing the oil every 25,000 miles (40,000 kms) with only filter changes every 6,000 miles (10,000 kms). NB: synthetics are not oil but parrafin.

Hope this helps? Cheers.

A good grade of Air Compressor oil has the same additives as well and some of my customers use it as a substitute as long as it is NON-DETERGENT OIL.

WILL THIS WORK ?

CAMBELL HAUFELD - ISO-100 NON-DETERGENT OIL
AIR COMPRESSOR OIL ? HOW MUCH DOES A CAT PUMP HOLD?

Michael,
I very strongly disagree with your suggestions on the non-use of synthetic oils. I have over 30 years in the trades and have been involved in professional drag racing. I can tell you without any doubt that good quality synthetic oil is the best thing you can do for your engines, transmissions, diffs., etc.
Thanks,
Bob Warfield

MR. WIZARD DO YOU THINK ISO-100 NON-DETERGENT OIL
AIR COMPRESSOR OIL . WILL WORK ??
thanks for the hyperlink .

I will check with Cat Pumps on that one. I will try to get you an MSDS sheet for the Cat oil. Most pumps have a site glass and it should only go up to the dot in the site glass. Half full never to the top of the pump.

Ahh Mr. Warfield,

Would that you read my post.... :)

I said that I fully support the use of synthetic oils in the correct application to benefit from their unique properties.

I know that there is no benefit to accrue from using them in a pressure washer/ small engine application by virtue of the fact that there is little or no flitration to trap the inevitable particulates that occur during mechanical component movement.

Where you can benefit from the ability to extend oil change intervals or have extreme demands then synthetic oil is THE BEST, period. As applied to pressure washers it is my opinion that there is nothing to be gained other than the loss of money.

They are simple reciprocating masses working under fairly ordinary conditions.

In my TDI Jetta I consistently get 53MPG at Interstate speeds even through Pennsylvania 'mountains'. I only run synthetic in my vehicles because I benefit from them. I drive as much as 5,000 miles per month and that means I rotate my tires and change my oil filter every month and change the oil when testing indicates that I should. There I benefit.

IMO it is not a justifiable expense for a pressure wahser pump or small industrial engine. It will not hurt and may possibly help the longevity but not at the added costs.

Cheers and thanks to John for the air compressor oil tip.

THANKS MICHAEL I AGREE WITH THE USE OF synthetic`s .AND JOHN I THANK YOU FOR AIR COMPRESSOR OIL . I COULD NOT DECODE THE DATA SHEET . BUT I WILL WORK IT OUT . THANKS A BUNCH !

Great Job Michael
