Caustic Mix

If you had a 1.75 quart chemical container and a pump that mixes 6 to 1, how much caustic beads would you add to that 1.75 qt container to get a decent hot dumpster cleaning mix to come out at 6 to1?

If my numbers are right I'd have to put in about half water and half caustic beads into the chem container just to get a decent mix.

Or are my numbers off?

Good rule of thumb i like to use 1 pound of caustic for 1 gallon of liquid i like to use glycol eher as the base and add the caustic to that makes grease hop away.

Our "hot" mix used to be 12 cups in 3 gallons of water. I think that would match your mix Hal.

In this case I'm spraying out of a sprayer that is going to limit me to 6:1 ratios.

I think the maximum I could dissolve in 1.75 quarts of water would probably be about 4 cups.

That would get me a pretty weak mix with a 6:1 ratio. I'm going to try it today and see how it works though.

What ratio comes out when you are downstreaming with a standard downstreamer? Does anybody know?

Same with oxalic acid we mix 1cup to 1 gal

A lot of downstream injectors are from about 8:1 to 25:1, you would have to put the chemical hose into ta measuring cup and time it for a minute then do the calculations.

The best rate I got was with an allison super suds sucker injector, that was 13:1 but you can change out the orifice in it to pull stronger but the smaller the orifice, it will affect your surface cleaner if you keep it connected in line. That is why I will downstream the mix then shut down the machine, take the injector out then restart and start working.

Having a portable like that at the end of the hose is a good idea.

Make up the mix into gallon jugs then pour into the smaller container as needed.

Give me a call Tony, I tried to call you last nite but it went to message.

My down streamer from Pressure Tek pulls 10:1.
I just xjet dumpster pads so I don't have to shut down the machine to pull the injector. Takes too much time. Especially if I'm 200' away from the trailer.
Like Chris I don't like having the injector on when doing flat work, it slows down the surface cleaner too much.

Guys !!?!!
TIME OUT !!!
SAFETY MEETING RIGHT NOW !!!

Newbies lurk in here, and you don't want to send one to the hospital with no flesh left on his arms and face !!
Did you see the 10,000 ways to die commercial for the guy that dropped a frozen turkey in the boiling oil, and stared down at it ??

a "bag" of Caustic Soda ..aka.. Sodium Hydroxide added all at once..
.. can cause an eruption of flesh-eating spew that can do ALL that.

AT LEAST.. it will eat a trench in your driveway faster than you can contain the spill.

WEAR Safety-gear, or just back your truck up !! .. ..Seriously.

Sodium Hydroxide is the equal-opposite for "nasty, and hyper-reactive" as Nitric Acid.
It is SUPER-"reactive".
