Cedar shake metal roof cleaning

Some pics from a cedar shake style metal roof cleaning. It has a lot of nooks and crannies that holds tree debris that caused green streaks down the front of the house. I had to get a 40 ft man lift to hover above it all and pick out the crud. My first lift job. It went better than expected.

The cedar shake metal roofs are a bit of an odessy to me.
Scott with "Confident" referred a customer of his to me last year that was a wood resto. project.
It was the first time I saw that sort of roof structure. He was able to clean it from the gutter line and ladder.
It looked really nice.

I can understand what some of the obsticles might have been that you encountered with crevaces.

Just curious, was the lift mandatory or could a ladder have accomplished the same results and gained a higher profit margin.
Usually a lift that size would be used to reach alot higher stucture than a 2 story.
I'm pretty sure i would not want to walk on the surface due to the integrity of the shakes being lean metal. Why not the ladder on the gutterline?

I seen this style of roof several months ago, although our company no longer offers roof cleaning this was a very nice looking roof. The homeowner had us clean her house and a section on the rear she thought that we would need to walk on it (We didn't) she told us that he husband had to walk on that section all the time to fix the window or other things ad when he would walk on the roof it would sound like you where walking on soda cans. lol You could see where he walked on the roof. However if we where to be the one cleaning that style roof I would do the same thing as kemp and get a lift, those roofs get very slick when wet.

Adrian, I believe the lift was the way to go on this one. The second story was the main concern. On this type of roof the solid stuff was packed in the spaces between the shingles. There was a few thousand square feet of roof. It was much easier to get it from above and use a big 0 tip like a water pick then follow up with a light roof mix. Safety and customer satisfaction are my #1 priority. This was a referal from one of my realtor people. Gotta keep her happy. The homeowner didn't mind paying extra for the lift to get the job done right.
I still made my hourly rate (100+) at 6.5 hours. I'm good with that.

Paul, It was my first "lift job". If done some jobs where I wish I had a lift. Had my chance and took it. It was a lot of fun. I get paid to play with cool machines and kickass waterguns. It was the first time I used my 8 gpm, 24 hp hot water skid I picked up at an awesome price. Thanks Russ S for helping me get the kinks out.
