ANY ADVICE ON AN EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT FOR CLEANING CEDAR SHAKES? I SAW PREVIOUS POSTS MENTION COPPER SULFATE AND SODIUM HYDROXIDE FOR CLEANING. I'VE ALSO SEEN "APPLE SAUCE" IN A POST. PLEASE ADVISE AS THE SHAKES ARE CLOSE TO 30 YEARS OLD WITH LITTLE ALGAE AND MOSTLY DARK GREYING. Roof Cleaning Cedar Shake IL

Cedar shakes are much more challenging and expensive. For all types of wood the best chemicals to use are sodium percarbonate with a little sodium hydroxide, pressure wash, and neutralize/brighten with oxalic acid.

After you let the shakes dry seal with a good quality oil-based stain. I like ReadySeal, Wolmans, and WoodTux. WoodTux can be applied to damp wood, but the only thing I don't like about it is the choice of colors, which is basically red or redder.

Hey Chris, I'll give you a ring tonight.
