does anyone know anything about google places?

I have set up a google places account but I am getting frustrated. Just how does it work? I am trying to put roof cleaning service in the category and it says they don't recognize it. But when I do a search a bunch of roof cleaning services come up on it!!! I also want to know if you can input keywords anywhere, this seems wierd. When I looked into the category situation they say they no longer allow custom categories to better serve the people looking for stuff! thats ridiculous because they don't have hardly any thing to choose from. Is there some secret to getting a better listing. If I put roof cleaning in my business name will that do the trick? Can someone help me. Also does anyone have experience with webdotcom? They are making my website.
 
After you fill in all your information you should have been prompted to confirm your address. You have to wait for a post card with a verification code. Google places is free so it only gives you a 15 miles radius from your address. You will get better results if you use your service as the business name. People are looking up roof cleaning, not RHQ property Maintenance. You should be able to type in your own category. Google works on the system of your standings are based on your clicks and what they can get out of it. Make sure you fill out your profile to 100%. The more people click on you the better your standing.
 
I did the postcard thing and got it today. I tried typing in my own category but they keep saying no, I have pressure washing as the primary and the other categories they used to let you put in what you want, but now they don't. I typed in roof cleaners and a bunch of pressure washing companies came up as well as strictly roof cleaning outfits, You know Appel (I spelled it wrong on purpose) and all them. I already registered my business name and opened a bank account under RHQ Maintenance, but irt doesn't matter if I go by "RHQ Roof Cleaning service" also right. also anything on keywords? I see on youtube that they mention that a lot, but I can't find where to enter them. My profile is filled out 100% I am just waiting on a real website . I have 4 GOdaddy instapages going right now, with 4 domains I bought. They are very limited.
