eddm ideas

Which do you guys think will be better, hitting 2000 houses, 3 times a year (1 now, then other 2 in may and july), or 1500 houses, 4 times a year (1 now, other 3 in may, june, and july)?
My cards will be professionally done with a nice call to action.

2,000 is the minimum that is worth sending EDDM so of the two choices you offer, three times would be my preference.

Timing is important as well. Send them when a decent stretch of weather is upon you. I would rather do March April May than wait until July. Perhaps these cards will generate enough response that you can then continue on into the summer.

I wouldn't spread them out over more than 4-6 weeks. Send 2500 to a very targeted area, 2 weeks later same route, 2 weeks later same route. You need to touch base with them at least 3 times to start the brand recognition process. If you're not being very picky about where you're sending your cards, then you might be wasting your money. Targeting (a) gets a better response rate and (b) saves you money. Repeat this process 4 times a year. Maybe a different targeted area each go round to get a feel of the response rate.

What if you Send now when Others are not, is there a awareness Factor about the Branding off the norm?

Yes, I think that you have a valid point. But that branding money should only be spent out of the excess.

If a fellow is budgeting for 6,000 shotgun EDDM cards, he needs to make the phone ring.

The branding aspect is always so hard to measure and finding that balance is an important but difficult task.

I just know from my own experiences in off budget time we have PM tell us they see us even when they do not need us. They like that and shows the Strength and builds the trust with them. I Just wonder if this might Increase the ROI over all.

I am with you 100% but when trying to get the marketing machine up and rolling, residential guys don't always have the ability to "Show the strength" as you put it, because often, the strength is not quite there. (I am not speaking of the OP as I don't know his situation).

My man GuyB is probably one of the stoutest residential marketeers when it comes to visibility, and a lot of new guys want to emulate his branding. I encourage them to call Guy and get the story behind the money, sacrifice, strategy and time that has put him where he is.

Branding is valuable, but it's not cheap. Most guys need to get the phone to ring before they can unleash the branding machine.

Here in New Zealand we get so much crap come to us by way of our mailboxes 99.99% of it finishes up in the trash unopened and unlooked at. People are just so over junk mail. Supermarkets, service people, dog groomers, mobile makeup artists, lawn mowing People, Land agents, Automotive suppliers you name it we get it.
I too have been responsible for contributing to this ever growing waste stream and frankly I might as well have just put the cost of the card/flier into the mail box in cash for all the feed back I got from it.
I have found a regular advert in the local newspaper to be the most cost effective direct to the customer approach. I can get my name into 63000 households a week in my area for less than $100 NZD with an advert in the “Trades and Services” section of the paper.

so probably waiting until April, and sending 1 in april, may, june, and july, would probably be best?
All will be going to the same homes.
I'm already somewhat familiar in these areas, but I'd like to further increase my branding.
My old boss has a store that a lot of ppl from these areas come too, so I will be leaving business cards next to her cash register.
Might talk with the local grocery store they all shop at and see if I can leave a flyer or something.
Figured I'd have these people see my brand everywhere they go.

EDDM is not very targeted, that is why it is so relatively cheap. Make sure you hire a professional to design postcard. If I take to a post office it costs me about $1250 printing and shipping for 5,000 pcs of 6 x 11. Just use the USPS website and pick the routes with the highest value homes. If you have never done before you should cover costs at least on first run. I would do 2nd run 4 - 6 weeks later. Keep in mind people will be calling months later with initial post card if it was well designed. As long as you cover costs you will get leads/referrals from completed jobs.

The USPS eddm tool did pretty good.
They picked up a few houses outside the neighborhood's I chose, but they were all still high revenue homes

Jeremy! If you need the business and you have a good card, I would keep mailing form April until Christmas. Your a ways South and should be able to keep busy. This Winter has been so cold and crappy we are getting a late start, but April will be a good time to kick it off.

I may end up doing that if things go well.
I've got an investor paying for these 4 mailings as well as a few other things, so the rest would come out of my pocket
