I had the same problem today and it ended up being a bad gas tank cap. I would of never guessed that. Take the gas cap off the tank and run it see it dies on you if not then it's the cap. Hope that helps.
The machine is a 16 hp mi-t-m briggs and stratton 4.2 gpm 4000 psi. The motor stalls when I press the trigger especially with my surface cleaner.( whisper wash) . It may be the unloader but I dont know how to adjust. It doesnt happen as much with the lance. Thank you guys!

Check each side for spark. The Vanguards have a wire that joins the coils to the ground terminal for the ignition. The wire has a diode at each coil to isolate the coils from each other. If a diode burns out, one coil will short out the other.
